January 6th has come up again for discussion across media. The fourth anniversary of the riot was a large conversation point in the U.S. with many remembering the events which happened at the Capital and new stories unfolding from these specific situations.
The discussion surrounding the 4 year anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capital became highly publicized. It is being remembered as a point in history and this remembrance also led to comparisons, different analysis and opinions from both side of media, along with the personal viewpoints of viewers watching and taking in this information as each year passes by.
During her commentary on the event Sunny Hostin included January 6th into a list of some of history's most notable dark moments such as the Holocaust, World War II and slavery which has been noted by a great number of individuals and news channels. She did this by expressing a belief the need for clarity regarding January 6th is required in the present. This comment has received mixed reviews across all viewers.
Alyssa Farah Griffin also a former aid to Donald Trump mentioned that economic unrest could have lead to the results. Sara Haines discussed the need for yearly commemoration and how this memory should always be highlighted using video clips. Both have similar feelings regarding needing a space to share the important perspective of this topic.
President Biden also used the event as a statement to highlight the need to respect peaceful transitions in power while noting the chaos from four years earlier. He made a point that any issues with current or past political views will always have a need to resolve and continue moving forward.
The hosts of "The View" engaged in conversation and expressed differing view points which made their specific view points much more clear. Whoopi Goldberg used fashion to express a message with the number 1920 representing that date women got to vote. As many had discussed before these issues can be multi faceted even though a common focus is sought.
Sunny Hostin says that people have "backtracked" what really happened on Jan 6 by stating people are losing their moral high ground to focus on other areas. Her concerns lie in the public being forced to move on when more clarity and insight are what was truly needed. She also used it as an approach for showcasing history which needs to be viewed and known instead of swept under the rug.
Many reacted very negatively with her comparison to history's tragic events , some said she used a poor comparison to highlight January 6th, and others calling out the need to deprogram different viewpoints. Viewers did feel that such topics were extremely sensitive and the way she relayed that message was something to consider during all forms of expression.
Trump's pledge to pardon the people who participated in the January 6 riot if he returns to office has been greatly talked about. Trump had stated "first day," referring to starting this upon entry into his duties. In addition he stated there are "good" people currently in less than acceptable jail conditions.
Trump's approach has elicited varied perspectives from media with some agreeing that this needs to be addressed to a group that feels they have been unfairly targeted while others believe this to be a way of excusing behavior which has caused harm.
All of this news created unique engagement on each media platform. Many who would never have known about certain topics before now have found their ways into all political spaces from radio to news channels and even social media groups, adding new views from a diverse group which otherwise would not be engaged with each type of story or reporting style. This also calls out how easily the story can be slanted to either view depending on who has the camera or holds the platform for that day's story.
All channels are in discussion to maintain an ethical approach to storytelling but many do fall in areas where polarization can occur because many feel the facts have shifted to specific points with an absence of overall truth.

Each has a different way of handling such sensitive and public matters which makes these discussions ones that must continue in order to reach more understanding while making a conscious effort in what each message holds and what view points are highlighted.
