This one is tricky! Even though Agents of SHIELD seemed super-connected to the movies, especially those early seasons, Marvel still hasn’t given us a clear answer about how it fits in the big MCU story.
Here's why it's all messed up: They created the show as a spin-off from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films - they were actually tied together - think Age of Ultron. But, some stuff happened after the series ended and some people were thinking it wasn't canon to the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe - it wasn't that simple. They wrote a huge book that basically stated Agents of SHIELD didn’t really count! So they kind of did say "It doesn't count!" It was weird!
With everything getting multiversal now, the whole MCU, the Marvel TV and the Marvel Studios - have gotten all tangled up in this crazy multiverse. It makes it hard for fans to grasp if something really is part of the MCU. But, since Agents of SHIELD has that whole multiversal feeling to it - and all those crossovers!
Some people are thinking that Agents of SHIELD's MCU status isn't as big of a deal right now!
There are tons of fans who love the show and there is a ton of information about it available. I guess we can just see what happens. They've got a pretty incredible legacy, too. Let’s hope this show will see a resurgence, with maybe a show in the future!
