Fans of Netflix's hit series Heartstopper were excited about the new season, which dropped recently. There is always anticipation about these shows. While this isn't a brand new story for the show, Heartstopper Season 3 introduced a significant character, one that many readers might have missed, from the source material.
For those who are following along. Oliver Spring (played by Jensen Clayden) is now part of the series, however his role is completely new from the original source material. The season will take us through Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson's (Kit Connor) adventures as they navigate their relationship. It gets a bit more complex, especially with Charlie struggling with his eating disorder and dealing with depression. It's one of those challenging periods that makes the coming of age so much more challenging.
The cast makes some changes to include a cameo of Oliver Spring!
For viewers of Heartstopper you will be familiar with how Charlie has Tori Spring, his sister. While this might be seen as another important dynamic, Oliver Spring, is NOT the younger brother in this series. That change makes things a lot different as well, it's one of those additions that add a fun aspect! You see, Oliver takes the spot of one of the cousins, so there is now another part to their family gatherings. While Oliver plays a big part in the Alice Oseman graphic novels, his part doesn't appear to make it as a bigger plot element in Heartstopper, making his inclusion a fun surprise to many. But there's an addition for those who were expecting something. For those who read Alice Oseman's series will also notice that this character does show up. This appears in one episode. Specifically "Winter." a Christmas themed show and while this character isn't front and center. This appearance is super brief.
What stands out even further, is the fact that fans really question Oliver's absence in Season 1 and Season 2. The producers did an interesting and intelligent approach to create Heartstopper on Netflix.
There are tons of characters! Some just may not make it into the adaptation!
It turns out though. It really looks like these producers took a really fun, clever approach. His appearance does make it! For those who read the book. You get to have a big cameo in the form of "Winter," and for others, it just comes off as a cute Christmas add-on that adds another level of sweetness.
The show itself might end after Season 3, and you never know if Oliver's cameo could blossom further in future adaptations.
Regardless. What appears for many, as a surprising add-on that many have come to adore! Oliver's role could still develop if there's a continuation of this story. And this is one everyone would like to see continue for ages.
