Goosebumps Season 2: 'The Vanishing' Trailer, Release Date, and Everything You Need to Know

Get Ready to Scream! Goosebumps Season 2 Trailer Unleashes the Horror!

Goosebumps Season 2: The Vanishing – A New Era of Frights

Disney+'s Goosebumps is back! This awesome adaptation of R.L. Stine's legendary horror books returns with season 2 (Goosebumps: The Vanishing); building off the amazing success of season 1; the earlier adaptation surprised critics, and earned significant viewership; becoming a strong contender. The show’s popularity and success from this earlier run helped drive its development; resulting in another installment; the team wisely moved towards a more anthological approach; getting different storylines that would be adapted based on what this fanbase might really expect; creating new, interesting perspectives; abandoning the prior serialized approach from the last series. And it just got better–with that amazing trailer in time for New York Comic Con!

The 2015 film adaptations got a great level design and set the tone of those eerie yet intriguing visual themes found in the television counterpart which ultimately serves as a brilliant template for adapting the unique storytelling approach seen in the original series. Now that the actual story arc itself focuses on adapting the original material– this team has clearly attempted to honor both their source material; R. L. Stine’s impressive bibliography, but they also have the desire and plan to explore different creative styles which have helped expand the initial plot to add additional detail which would ultimately produce even better levels of emotional tension, in both terrifying and suspense-driven moments that every viewer would be anticipating, all set in Brooklyn.

Meet the New Crew and the Evil Plant at the Heart of It All!

Goosebumps Disney 2023 TV Poster Image

The trailer kicks off by introducing twin siblings, Cece and Devin; joining their dad Anthony (David Schwimmer) for a Brooklyn summer! Anthony’s warning– “Stay out of the basement!” is classic horror— yet he fails to explain exactly why, adding further anticipation; and this clever opening establishes those thematic elements seen throughout this story arc and prepares viewers to engage fully within that story world.

That basement warning; the thematic elements presented throughout that specific narrative, which serves to establish both character and plot points; it serves the story overall, because those events ultimately focus upon a plant which would be awakened inadvertently, highlighting a key event from the overall storyline and becomes another crucial element that becomes ever more apparent later on:   it eventually attacks Anthony and Devin; influencing other events that will trigger an ensemble story involving multiple teen characters– CJ (Elijah M. Cooper), Franki (Galila La Salvia), Alex (Francesca Noel), and Trey (Stony Blyden)––all reacting and facing many terrifying moments after the awakening.

A Serialized Approach to Anthology Storytelling

The trailer clearly shows how that anthological method might connect many events; emphasizing a larger story involving Anthony's brother's mysterious death– this would obviously form another pivotal aspect and is a hook that clearly brings that key plot device: this event is the backbone that forms much of the story’s key conflict; driving various other connected events which could’ve been very simple or completely abandoned, however this element ties things together nicely and demonstrates an intense and potentially devastating loss impacting this household that only those people involved could easily and truthfully know. The ’90s setting acts as an intriguing point; something rarely visited that could also produce another nostalgic thrill, providing something very different to help set that suspense, something truly innovative compared to season 1’s overall plot arc, as even this particular season shows its own innovative method in retelling that story.

This creates another interesting effect and adds tension: The plant affecting both Anthony and the twins. The ‘Stay out of the basement’ line is a key reference– linking to a similarly themed Stine novel (one involving a parent growing plant-like vines). This shows how the adaptation works well! The plant-based antagonists add a unique spin– the other mysteries and monsters shown (a possessed car, an enormous evil sponge-monster) demonstrate the scope and variety planned; hinting at other iconic Stine tales making appearances throughout this installment. This clever use of various interconnected narrative devices adds emotional intrigue, creates surprises and keeps audiences anticipating those unique twists only possible in a series like Goosebumps.

Our Take: High Hopes for Goosebumps: The Vanishing

Season 1 found its own fantastic, very unique way to create those intense thrills based upon its source material, the earlier iteration created moments to build its suspenseful, terrifying atmosphere and this earlier success helped influence its continuation and creative plans for this sequel. And those choices involving re-imagining and expanding upon already existing material adds value to both the sequel and the original itself. This shows another level of innovation compared to many sequels: those same levels of nostalgia for those interested and also added that suspense necessary in creating those uniquely scary situations; adding anticipation even further, as Season 2 creates its own identity separate from its predecessor, while still adhering to R. L. Stine’s original stories and that original brand.

The trailer hints that it does seem like those previous plots are unresolved. This lack of explicit attention, in exchange for another overarching story adds intrigue and provides anticipation toward the sequel! The clever blend of suspense; adding unexpected Horror thrills all demonstrate those choices done cleverly– leaving this series well poised for another very significant increase in those fanbases and audience members waiting to enjoy those terrifying chills!
