Forget Doomsday: Superman is Eventually Getting A 'Fight To The Death' With A New Villain Who Deserves The Honor.
The DC Universe is familiar with doom for accomplishing something no other villain in popular continuity has—killings of Superman. Notwithstanding this great achievement, many supporters contend that Doom is overrated and did not merit the title of defeating the Man of Steel. But a fresh foe is developing, ready to provide Superman the battle he so richly deserves.
Reminiscing on Kal-El's fatal struggle with Doomsday, DC is preparing Superman and the Last Son for a fight to the grave. But unlike Doom, the Last Son is rightfully deserving of slaying the Man of Steel.
Why Is Amanda Waller's Last Son a Doomsday-Level Threat to Superman?
One of the six power-stealing Amazo robots in Amanda Waller's new Task Force VII is Last Son Inspired by Superman, this robot has the classic red, yellow, and blue color palette and is assigned to pilfers Kal-El's Kryptonite abilities. Designed similarly to the Justice League members they will be facing in Absolute Power—including Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Flash, and Green Lantern—the other five Amazo robots mirror their These Amazo robots are also especially more hazardous since different personalities of Zur-En-Arrh Batmen from all throughout the Multiverse possess them.
Given the Last Son's combination of improved Amazo technology with Batman's influence, this robot probably exceeds the threat level of Doomsday. One of the toughest enemies of the Justice League, the original Amazo was almost relentless in using the combined powers of the whole team and adaptably changing. Now Last Son is an upgraded form of Amazo, tested by a Zur-En-Arrh Batman, as reported in Batman #147 by Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez, posing an unheard-of threat. For Superman, both Amazo and Batman have been fierce rivals, hence Last Son is especially deadly.
The Iconic Superman: A View Through History
The last son of Krypton fled his dying planet to crash land on Earth and be raised as Clark Kent, essentially launching the entire universe of superheroes. Known better worldwide as Superman, the Man of Steel, Justice League leader, and most famously DC Comics Universe hero, he is Kal-El of Krypton, blessed with the powers of a deity, battles cosmic as well as tiny foes in his ceaseless search of truth, justice, and a better future.
One finds hope in Superman. He is constantly eager to defend what is good and reflects the best of mankind. His story is so gripping because of this, and the threat of the Last Son is thus quite perilous.
Solicitations Verify Last Son Will Be a Major Threat - Variant Teases Possible Death of Man of Steel.
Although Superman hasn't yet faced Last Son, certain specifics regarding their unavoidable conflict have been verified by requests for forthcoming Absolute Power-related comics. Last Son has "eliminated the threat of Superman and all his allies in Metropolis," notes Leah Williams and Caitlin Yarsky's Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1 description. The synopsis of Absolute Power #2 supports this claim by stating that "the metahumans of the DC universe have been depowered following Amanda Waller's total victory." Superman will so clearly experience power decrease resulting from Last Son.
Though losing one's powers and dying are two separate events, the covers for next issues suggest the likelihood of a The Death of Superman moment. While Dan Mora's primary cover shows Superman being mercilessly crushed by Last Son, obviously losing the fight, Tyler Kirkham's variant cover for Absolute Power #2 shows Superman and Last Son engaging in an epic struggle. Finally, Ben Oliver's alternate cover shows a really sad sight of Last Son clutching almost skeletal, weak form of Superman. These covers taken together point to the story of Superman's possible death.
Though he is the most underrated of Superman's most iconic villains, Doomsday May be One
Should Last Son be successful in eliminating Superman, it would surely raise the Amazo-Batman hybrid to the threat level of Doomsday, the only villain in popular continuity to have accomplished. Designed by writer-artist Dan Jurgens, Doomsday initially surfaced in Superman: The Man of Steel #17 in 1992. His complete debut came soon in issue #18. His defining moment came in the Death of Superman narrative, when he engaged Superman in a vicious fight leading to both of their deaths, therefore confirming his reputation as one of Superman's most ferocious enemies in comic book history.
Although many fans consider Doomsday as overrated and maybe unworthy of the status as the only villain to have murdered the Man of Steel, most people agree that Superman's most toughest enemy is this one. The defining quality of Doomsday is his unrelenting destruction; first appealing but finally producing a one-dimensional character devoid of the complexity of many of Superman's other enemies. Moreover, Superman's death at the hands of Doomsday basically equated to a strength-based loss, a fairly poor ending for the Man of Steel.
