Eric Kripke explains Jeffrey Dean Morgan's character in The Boys Season 4.
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke highlights the significance of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's character for Season 4. Kripke and Morgan had before worked on the CW's Supernatural together. Morgan first appears in The Boys season 4 as a CIA man called Kessler, who has a past with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).
Along with why Morgan is the perfect actor to play the series newbie, Kripke spoke in an interview with Variety about why Kessler is such a key element to the story and to Butcher's narrative. See Kripke's notes down below:
"You need another butcher," Eric Kripke remarks, characterizing Jeffrey Dean Morgan in The Boys' fourth season.
The idea surfaced really early to feature a CIA operative rather similar to a Butcher. Almost everyone in Butcher's life is attempting to drag him back and warn him not to do it. And we said, well, what if he had someone in his life that resembled, "No, you certainly have to do that? And proceed farther and more forcefully.
You basically need still another Butcher. Regarding screen presence, charm, and danger, it's not simple to discover someone who could match Karl exactly. Luckily, that was the same period Jeffrey Dean had informed me he might be free for that season. And I say, "Oh, thank God, because that's perfect." One of you carries Karl's weight and height. And as he was a CIA agent, I replied, well, we should call them Kessler and just follow our protocol.

The Boys: An All Around View
Inspired by the same-named comic book series, Eric Kripke created The Boys as a superhero/dark comedic parable series. The show is set in a "what-if" universe honoring superheroes as gods or celebrities with little repercussions for their actions. One squad of vigilantes under the guidance of a vengeance-obsessed man named Billy Butcher will fight back against these super-charged "heroes," therefore exposing them for what they are.
The sitcom has become beloved by audiences, which fuels great enthusiasm about the regular caustic comedy and storyline shocks across every season. The Boys has also got lot of favorable reviews. Among the various factors influencing the popularity of the show is its capacity to artistically address issues of corruption, power, and the human condition.
