Filming a New Wrestling Movie: "Look At That F--king Thing," Dwayne Johnson injures his elbow
Filming his newest wrestling flick, The Smashing Machine, Dwayne Johnson had an elbow injury. Along with Emily Blunt, Lyndsey Gavin, Oleksandr Usyk, Ryan Bader, and Zoe Kosovic, Johnson is front and center in the forthcoming biographical drama as the wrestler and mixed martial artist Mark Kerr. Benny Safdie, who co-directed Good Time and Uncut Gems with his brother Josh, both A24 features, marks his solo directing debut with his drama.
Shortly after production started in late May, Dwayne Johnson posted a video on Instagram showing an elbow injury he acquired while shooting The Smashing Machine. Examine the video down below.
The Smashing Machine Indices Dwayne Johnson (In More Than One Way) to Have a Significant Departure
December 2023 saw The Rock depart his typical roles to engage in most dramatic performance to date by playing Mark Kerr in an A24 film by Benny Safdie. Over his career, Johnson has established himself with action films such the Fast & Furious series, Skyscraper, and Rampage. In movies like Central Intelligence, Jumnaji, and The Tooth Fairy, he has also portrayed humorous characters often combining comedy with his action-hero reputation.
The Smashing Machine, though, deviates greatly from Johnson's usual roles. As the A24 film follows the biography of Mark Kerr, a wrestler and MMA fighter who suffered a lot of hardship and misery over his life and career—including addiction—it will most definitely be his most dramatic performance yet. Both physically and practically, Johnson has described Mark Kerr as his most difficult role thus far.
The DVD
Johnson shows his injuries in the video, which looks like a "cantaloupe in his elbow," guessing whether any soft tissue damage might be there but he will have to empty the fluid before undergoing an MRI to determine the degree of the damage. The video showed Johnson's bright attitude, which led one to believe that the damage is not too severe or that it would significantly slow down, if at all, output.
The Smashing Machine's filming is expected to be completed by the beginning of August; it is yet unknown whether Johnson's elbow ailment would cause delays in production.
Johnson's Reiteration of Stunt Returns
The Smashing Machine marks a physical as well as a major departure for Johnson. Given his elbow damage during filming, Johnson seems to be conducting his own stunts once more. Previously, the action actor carried out some of his own stunts, but since Skyscraper in 2018 he hasn't done so. Johnson, a professional wrestler himself, appears to be performing his own stunts on The Smashing Machine to give his act more real feel.
Directed by Benny Safdie, The Smashing Machine is a biographical sports drama. Playing MMA fighter Mark Kerr, Dwayne Johnson will portray his life and career on the mixed martial arts circuit.
Since he entered Hollywood, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been able to create a quite successful movie career.

The audience clearly like Johnson rather a lot. The actor has managed to attract a sizable and fervent following. Producers who most likely will be keen to feature the actor on their projects highly value him.
