The impetus for *House of the Dragon* Season 2 is Luke's Death.
Luke and his dragon Arrax are eaten by the hideous Vhagar, who defies its rider, Aemond, at the *House Of The Dragon* season 1 ending. Though she restrained herself, Daemon pushed Rhaenyra to declare war once Aegon took her crown. Rhaenyra is furious at learning of Luke's death at the season 1 finale and has a spiteful facial expression implying she is ready for war. But as Rhaenys shows in the season 2 clip, Rhaenyra has refrained herself and is still in control even following the seeming murder of her son.
Daemon is a different story even though Rhaenyra does not "act upon the vengeful impulse that others might," as Rhaenys notes in the clip. Luke's killing is what drives Daemon to plan the "Blood and Cheese" revenge scheme, the nicknames assigned to the two people executing it. Daemon writes of it in the book as "an eye for an eye, a son for a son." The second season of *House Of The Dragon* will modify this vicious revenge scheme, and the episode most likely will appear early in the season.
Daemon's Reaction To Luke's Death In The Season 1 Ending: First Clip From *House Of The Dragon* Season 2
The first *House of the Dragon* season 2 clip shows Daemon's response to Luke's death during season 1 finale. Based on George R. R. Martin's book *Fire & Blood*, the prequel series for *Game Of Thrones* chronicles the terrible war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons that split the Targaryens into the Greens and Blacks and finally destroyed the great house 172 years before its predecessor. Following Lucerys's death at the season 1 finale, the civil war is poised to flare in *House of the Dragon* season 2.
Now, the first clip from the *House of the Dragon* season 2 premiere surfaced during Matt Smith's recent visit on CBS Mornings. See it down below. The second season footage shows the Blacks' shock to Luke's death. Rhaenys tells Daemon at Dragonstone that a raven has arrived telling Rhaenyra her son Luke is dead. Though Daemon believes "she was a fool to go alone," Rhaenyra "needs to know it for certain," so she goes to Storm's End to try to find the body. Soon Daemon chastises Rhaenys for not "acting when she had the chance" at the Dragon's Pit at Aegon's coronation to extinguish his line and thereby avoid Luke's death.
With a tremendous influence on Helaena Targaryen, King Aegon, and others, Blood & Cheese will be *House of the Dragon* season 2's most stunning scene.
Both sides will reach the point of no return after the Blacks react to Luke's death with Blood and Cheese, therefore starting the Dance of the Dragons. Luke's passing then serves as the impetus for the other violent, terrible conflicts still to arise. The first *House of the Dragon* season 2 film shows how, in the fight to come, Rhaenyra often shows restraint, yet her husband Daemon's need for fire and blood usually rules over his reason.
Season 2 of *House of the Dragon* airs June 16 on HBO and Max.
