Big Bang Theory Spinoff: Will Stuart's Show Survive the Streaming Wars?

Get ready for a new spin-off from The Big Bang Theory! It's been a long time coming, and fans have been waiting for ages!

Stuart's Big Bang Theory Spinoff

After much speculation, Chuck Lorre finally revealed some details about this new series which features the return of Kevin Sussman, bringing his iconic Stuart Bloom back from the beloved sitcom. It's expected that this will become a major hit, but unfortunately, one key factor just might doom its chances before it even starts. This spin-off isn't just a sequel; it's the third spin-off in the whole Big Bang Theory franchise.

It seems there are even more stories to tell. Even Georgie and Mandy's first marriage, a spin-off from Young Sheldon will debut sometime soon, it is fairly unconnected with the original Big Bang Theory. That means getting Stuart back means audiences will get the nostalgia from a fan-favorite character.

We're learning more about the new Big Bang Theory spin-off! Word first came out about it in early 2023 but little was actually released and nothing has officially been confirmed from the studios, Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre Prods.

Deadline broke some additional information: along with Sussman there's Brian Posehn playing Bert Kibbler, and Lauren Lapkus will be playing Denise. Unfortunately, many plot details remain undisclosed at this stage; it is even unclear if other characters from the original Big Bang Theory cast will appear, as well as, just what kind of connection it will make! Even the possibility of even the appearance of these beloved characters remains unknown. Even reps at WBTV refuse to talk, meaning this whole venture is pretty much unclear.

Max Streaming and Its Impact

There’s a lot going on for Lorre's franchise spin-off!

However, there's one major issue that might significantly impact the entire outcome! This upcoming spin-off is airing on Max, the streaming service of Warner Bros. Discovery! That's not how other shows from this franchise have operated before.

  • This means a switch away from CBS. The original shows got 20+ episodes per season.
  • However, streaming is going to cause huge disruptions with big gaps between each season.

This type of situation can be a huge problem, with the chance of it getting canceled before it ever gets a chance to become successful. Many Netflix shows suffered this problem.

With half hour sitcoms. It can be very difficult to get started right away!

What can be particularly concerning is the chance for this entire show to never see a full release if it is under this format!

Why HBO Max?

Unfortunately, it seems the Big Bang Theory spinoff doesn’t really have a choice as "Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage" already took the network TV slot! Even though Young Sheldon and the original Big Bang Theory both aired on CBS there really isn't much story connecting these three shows together, and placing it on CBS could cause some friction, as well. So what was once something to easily plan, isn't so simple now! There's so many factors making it incredibly important for studios to think about long-term!

This new model risks failure!

It's been the pattern. As more series come out those looking for long-term viewing should really keep a lookout for series on network TV!

Many viewers love their HBO Max streaming! Even still there is just one crucial consideration when discussing streaming platforms!

It seems that unless something really great happens there's no reason for audiences to think that the show has a major chance at really taking off, unfortunately.
