Blumhouse's Wolfman: New trailer Unleashes a Howling Good Time (and Terrifying Transformation)!

Get Ready to Howl: The New Wolfman Trailer Is Here!

Forget everything you thought you knew about werewolves! Blumhouse Productions and director Leigh Whannell (the genius behind the awesome The Invisible Man) are giving us a totally new take on the classic monster movie, and the new trailer debuted at New York Comic Con! Prepare yourselves; because it is about to get very, very scary!  Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, inheriting his dad's creepy Oregon farmhouse after his disappearance. Along for this adventure are his wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner) and their daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth).

The trailer opens with a seriously intense scene – an accident! The family's moving van flips on a lonely road, creating that claustrophobic setup perfect for creating early suspense and immediately raises the stakes in this new monster movie and sets up those classic horror tropes, resulting in an amazing experience right from the beginning. Then – an attack! Blake is mauled; setting into motion this incredibly horrific transformation that occurs as night descends, further enhancing the cinematic experience as an immersive horror film.  The trailer keeps things high-energy, using suspenseful moments and clever lighting, creating this tense atmosphere throughout and perfectly showcases what makes this specific production really work. It shows off Charlotte’s desperate attempts to keep herself and her family alive!

What the Trailer Reveals About Wolfman

While that first teaser showed a fractured family, this trailer highlights that ordeal they will face together! This movie becomes a twisted family drama of epic proportions;  that whole horrifying night will really test them; their ability to keep fighting for survival against what that impending change that happens and makes their loved one become this utterly horrifying monster that is only found here, bringing new intensity and truly reimagining these older stories using many more modernized story elements. We aren't quite sure if the wolf glimpsed at the ending is Blake, or that other creature from the older stories but whatever happens - everyone's in deep trouble!

Whannell's filmmaking style takes this even further: This is more than just some scary monster flick; this includes truly impressive cinematic elements! He shows things from Blake’s perspective – making the transformation itself even more intense – and he cleverly uses light and color; almost surreal imagery that generates that incredibly strong, memorable feeling, like he trapped him within an almost impossible world that only comes out through this cinematic perspective! The experience feels quite immersive from start to finish. This reimagines the genre in creative ways through the choice of storytelling and narrative and truly showcases Whannell’s excellent creative style!

Our Thoughts: A New Chapter for Classic Horror

Julia Garner looking concerned in Wolf Man 2024 Image

It seems like Whannell uses his Invisible Man magic again, this time with a female lead; and Julia Garner is seriously talented; perfect for creating an incredible counterpoint; and this one shows him twisting that classic werewolf story into this intense siege movie – unlike those prior versions. And rather than focusing primarily on the monster himself;  it will be intensely focused on how this terrible situation really impacted this one particular family and those surrounding them, re-imagining these older, simpler storylines into something far more powerful and engaging. He's bringing classic horror into a brand new terrifying direction for modern audiences. A refreshing take. Expect plenty of visceral thrills and new ideas and elements, completely bringing this older classic into the modern day!
