Movies News Talk
Christopher Robin and Maria are nearly able to kill Pooh before the movie's ending, but Pooh manages to survive. Christopher crushes Pooh between two cars, but the area is also surrounded by flames. While it appears that the killer bear's terror is at an end, Pooh miraculously pushes himself free from the cars and begins attacking Maria and Christopher again. Considering Piglet seemingly died from being hit in the head by a sledgehammer, Pooh's survival is shocking.
The ending suggests that the non-Disney Pooh Bear is somewhat supernatural, with inhuman strength and invincibility that reflects the natures of classic indestructible horror villains like Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. Pooh even took a crowbar to the face and shook it off as if he had barely been touched, which means he can likely only be taken down by a figure as strong and supernatural as himself. Considering the director Rhys Frake-Waterfield is intending to form a cinematic universe with horror adaptations of children's stories, it's no surprise that Pooh survived to return in the sequel.
Christopher Robin's fate is left ambiguous. After Pooh fatally stabs Maria, Christopher Robin runs away and Pooh isn't seen chasing after him. It's likely that Christopher was able to escape the Hundred Acre Wood by finding the nearby car garage or potentially flagging down locals to help him flee the area.
The ending indicates that Christopher Robin may have survived his first reunion with Pooh Bear and Piglet, but the animals will continue seeking revenge on him for his abandonment until a final fatal confrontation. Christopher Robin survives and returns in the sequel, Winnie-the-pooh: Blood and Honey 2, though is blamed for the deaths of Maria and her friends, with the incident referred to in the press as the "Hundred Acre Massacre".
Although Pooh Bear exhibits supernaturally invincible qualities, Piglet doesn't appear to have the same inhuman strength. After Piglet killed Zoe with a sledgehammer, Alice took revenge on him by using his own weapon against him. Piglet was repeatedly hit in the face with the sledgehammer, with the half-human half-pig hybrid seemingly letting out his last few cries of agony before dying.
Considering Pooh arrives to find Piglet motionless and unresponsive, the 2023 Horror Movie suggests that Pooh's accomplice has died, which is why his cruelties become even more gruesome in the film's final moments. However, Piglet is alive in Blood and Honey 2. While this may have been something of a surprise, it turns out that Pooh, Piglet, and the rest of the creatures are experimental hybrids, which may give them some kind of healing factor that accounts for Piglet's apparent resurrection.
After Christopher Robin abandoned Pooh, Piglet, Owl, Rabbit, and Eeyore, the forest animals were forced to fend for themselves and nearly starved to death. Pooh decided that the animals would have to eat Eeyore, a despicable act that led the original public domain Winnie-the-pooh characters to completely abandon their humanity, resort to a feral animalistic state, and vow to never speak again. Only speaking in mumbles and animal noises throughout the vast majority of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, Pooh Bear finally utters one line in the movie's final scene.
As Christopher Robin pleads for Pooh to spare Maria and take him instead, Pooh rejects his offer and says “You left.” The alarming words are followed by Pooh killing Maria, meaning there is nothing that Christopher Robin can do to stop the chaos, nor can he make up for his abandonment – the damage is already done. Pooh vowed to never speak again after Christopher Robin left, so he makes an exception to finally use his voice once more to explain to Christopher that he's the reason for these tragedies. Consequently, Pooh's single line in the ending is extremely haunting and threatening. Christopher Robin will never be safe.
Christopher Robin and Pooh Bear's survival sets up another confrontation in the sequel, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2. Blood and Honey 2 directly follows on from the Blood and Honey ending. Christopher Robin survives, but is blamed for what the media dub the "100 Acre Woods Massacre". Christopher returns to his hometown of Ashdown, where he becomes a pariah. However, there are several people who believe his story, which is the key way that the sequel ties into the ending of Blood and Honey.
Following Christopher Robin's attempts to convince people that he wasn't responsible for the deaths of Maria and her friends, several groups of believers travel to the 100 Acre Woods to try and uncover the truth. They all end up being slaughtered by Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Owl. However, Owl believes the group should travel to Ashdown to hunt Christopher Robin. Pooh initially wants to remain in the 100 Acre Woods, but his mind is changed when a group of hunters kill Piglet (this time, apparently, for good). Blood and Honey 3 has been confirmed, which will continue the story even further, since Pooh, Piglet, and the rest are given an origin story of sorts in the sequel that explains (among other things) their apparent ability to return from the dead after the ending of Blood and Honey. There are also several more movies planned for the shared universe of these now public-domain characters. Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare are also coming from director Rhys Frake-Waterfield.
