Fiyero in the Wicked Movie: Jonathan Bailey's Take on the Emerald City Heartthrob
Alright, Wicked fans, let's dish about everyone's favorite Winkie prince – Fiyero – and how Jonathan Bailey is bringing him to life in the upcoming movie. I've seen a ton of articles about Fiyero (Fiero to some, but let's be honest, it is actually Fiyero) and they all seem to miss something crucial: this fiyero wicked movie interpretation isn't just a rehash of what we've seen on stage, so don't expect Jonathan Bailey Fiyero to match exactly Prince Fiyero in the books; this role was specifically designed for Johnathan Bailey Wicked!
Remember how the internet lost its collective mind when Jonathan Bailey was announced as Fiyero?! Let's also get that fact out in the open here – his performance was specifically meant to generate a reaction that only a popular person would receive – and therefore by using and taking full advantage of people talking and arguing about the selection in itself; was guaranteed to build additional hype by using a very known actor. This alone created enormous discussion about it which was precisely what had been aimed for; there could have easily been hundreds of other choices – there certainly were hundreds! However not necessarily bringing the level of audience attention that these did bring, though not for particularly negative reasons. That hype alone certainly raised a great level of audience demand; without that aspect, the movie would already have started from a far less excited baseline and with little to talk about beforehand to generate organic excitement and audience interaction. So much so, I remember endless hours in which conversations between the casting selection between whether Johnathan Bailey Fiyero would work, and for Jonathan Bailey Wicked – his whole background came up for review. It went beyond whether or not who is playing Fiyero in wicked movie would meet audience expectations and was truly one of those unique discussion levels that made something even before the whole title was created itself!
Fiyero: From Book to Stage to Screen – Expect Changes, Embrace the Unexpected.
What are you expecting here; this isn’t an easy thing! Many of you already know all characters have their origins as literary representations first described from the book’s Fiyero Wicked book! This literary Fiyero serves as the basis for everything – and Johnathan Bailey Fiero clearly plays an important aspect! Before even talking about which kind of performance was given on Fiyero!
You are reading Fiyero – which describes character arc that you may want or may want to separate from Jonathan’s movie interpretation – though certainly both characters are related through story context.
Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero: Bringing Something New to the Emerald City
Jonathan is quite possibly one of the luckiest actors alive at the moment to be cast as the prince; and in such an iconic title too!
- Charm and Charisma: Seriously, Wicked Movie Jonathan Bailey – his scenes show this! And it’s what Fiyero requires – a captivating mix of innocence, confidence, and recklessness.
- Beyond Bridgerton: Jonathan, I must be frank – I loved seeing you break through previous assumptions as a certain Viscount and completely owning a role where dancing was one of his key character traits – as he did playing Jonathan Bailey Fiyero ! He also seemed to fit particularly well with the storyline even before we’ve officially seen anything other than previews!
- Vocal Skills: Prince Fiyero sings, my friends. It is not simply a matter of the right acting ability for whoever was cast as Fiyero, Jonathan Bailey Fiyero certainly delivered exactly that required talent by owning what his interpretation – and now I see no reason that casting shouldn’t have worked just as well either using a number of the alternative casts originally proposed.
I see no possible outcome in which the Fiyero Wicked movie Jonathan Bailey plays has anything even remotely similar to his Jonathan Bailey Fiero scenes originally intended by Maguire.
So, Is the Fiyero Hype Justified? I truly think so!
Jonathan brings all those strengths, though whether this actually worked according to Maguire is what I am looking for at the moment.
Based on how trailers appear to indicate us, and with Fiyero Wicked movie being such a greatly awaited film; Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, was the perfect decision. This is the perfect storm, blending casting that not only was well made and fitting to role and story, but which also ended up making use of the fan chatter as extra marketing and hype – so well so I honestly don’t believe they intended just the kind of outcome delivered by it and likely would have accepted a worse result too – the outcome certainly wasn’t guaranteed or planned to generate such widespread excitement, making use of what fan bases created on their own by reacting as audiences often do.
Ultimately, Jonathan Bailey Wicked is one of the many reasons making this a great production to anticipate for! And it appears that the hype is deserved here.
