The Maze Runner Movies wisely omitted telepathy.
You know how occasionally movies attempt to pack everything from the book onto the screen? Well, by omitting telepathy from Thomas and Teresa's story, The Maze Runner films made a wise decision.
Remember it. Teresa has a secret ability to converse with Thomas in their heads throughout the book. It lends a whole layer of mystery and link between them. On screen, though, it would have been a big head-scratcher.
Already on Its Plate, The Maze Runner Movie Had Enough
Already juggling a lot, the film included the maze itself, the terrifying Grievers, the whole Wckd conspiracy. Including telepathy on top of that would have been like trying to fit a giant puzzle into a little box. Everyone would have become confused from it!
Telepathy Too Difficult to Show on Film
It would have been difficult to depict telepathy on screen even if the film sought to explain it. How would one clearly indicate that someone is speaking from their mind? Are subtitles included? Make the voice of theirs strange. This is a difficult one.
Teresa and Thomas's relationship was still strong without telepathy.
The good news is that Teresa and Thomas' relationship remained rather strong even without telepathy. They obviously had a unique relationship from the time they first met. Though it added a layer of mystery, telepathy was not essential for their story to be compelling.
The Maze and Escape dominated the movie.
The Maze Runner films focused entirely on the maze, the escape, and deciphering the situation. Including telepathy would have turned the emphasis from the primary story away. Without it, the movies performed a fantastic job of maintaining the exciting and simplified narrative.
Remember then that excluding telepathy was a wise decision the next time you view The Maze Runner. It simplified the film and concentrated on the mystery and action everyone enjoyed.
