Although Fox cast Channing Tatum as Gambit in 2014, his solo Gambit film never came to pass even with several X-Men films and other projects under development. Its cancellation was mostly caused by Marvel Studios acquiring Fox in 2019, which brought an end to all current Fox projects. Marvel decided not to move forward with Fox's earlier produced Gambit film since Marvel already had ideas for the X-Men, including Gambit, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Moreover, the film was in years of development hell, subject to delays and director and writer changes. Furthermore, the bad reception of Taylor Kitsch's performance of Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) clouds the character and makes it difficult to get excitement for a solo movie.
Though never realized, the Gambit film underwent several phases of development. Attached to the project for years, Channing Tatum oversaw several directors and writers including Josh Zetumer, Doug Liman, and Rupert Wyatt. Although the project experienced several delays and rewrites, at one point it was announced that filming would start in 2017. But the production was constantly postponed due to different creative and logistical problems.
Channing Tatum might or not ever perform Gambit in the MCU. Though Marvel has not said anything regarding Tatum's reprising of the character, he expressed interest in doing so. It's hard to say whether the MCU's X-men ideas will explore a stand-alone Gambit movie or feature the character into an already-existing franchise given their still-underdevelopment. Still, given the popularity of the character and Tatum's past involvement, it's not totally impossible that he would ultimately be cast in an MCU project.
Along with Channing Tatum, Taylor Kitsch played Gambit in the critically panned X-men Origins: Wolverine (2009). The poor reception of the movie helped to explain the lack of popularity of the character and finally hampered the creation of a solo Gambit movie.
Gambit is a major player on the X-Men team in the Disney+ animated series X-men '97. The show, which carries on the venerable X-Men animated series from the 1990s, shows Gambit in a sophisticated and nuanced manner that highlights his mutant and skilled thief abilities. He is a very important member of the team since he shows leadership and fighting skills.
Mostly playing cards, gambit has mutant power to kinetically charge objects with energy. This lets him unleash terrible assaults and produce strong explosions. His agility, friendly demeanor, and remarkable hand-to----combat skills are well-known.
X-men Origins: Wolverine's convoluted plot, poor visual effects, and treatment of some characters—especially Gambit—caused great controversy. Among the main causes of the negative reception of the movie were its departure from the source material, hurried tempo, and overuse of computer-generated imagery. Given the already damaged character's reputation, the underperformance of the movie further complicated the development of a solo Gambit movie.
