Stephenie Meyer, author of the blockbuster Twilight book series, initially wrote an original Twilight sequel called "Forever Dawn," before reimagining it with "New Moon." What changes could this original storyline have brought?
Forever Dawn had a completely different plot! It skipped Bella's senior year of high school, making "New Moon" and "Eclipse" non-existent! This major shift would have dramatically impacted Jacob character development as he was supposed to be an inconsequential character in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight! It also impacted Bella relationship with Jacob. Instead of a Love Triangle with Edward, it would have made Jacob simply a "device," as she explained in her blog.
Because Edward wouldn't have left Bella (as in "New Moon"), Jacob would not have gained importance or expanded his role! He was going to be a more minor figure, and not a central character, with less emphasis on a Jacob role in Twilight and less depth regarding Jacob feelings for Bella. With no "New Moon" or "Eclipse," this also means Bella would not have needed to grapple with her complex Bella and Jacob relationship, or grapple with a Bella choice between Jacob and Edward!
In Twilight original sequel, Jacob wasn't part of the central plot as he is in "New Moon" and "Breaking Dawn." Stephenie Meyer's Twilight initially just gave Jacob a smaller part, only to get expanded with "New Moon." You could even find more information about Jacob original role in Twilight.
The imprinting is even weirder in "Forever Dawn." Because Jacob is less present, he wouldn't have imprinted on Renesmee, Bella and Edward's child, when she's born! It would have been a separate, strange moment! It would also remove a key moment with Jacob presence at Renesmee birth. Fans are also reminded that in the series, Jacob confusing his feelings with Renesmee is explained as Jacob love for Bella and Jacob relationship with Renesmee!
Twilight fans have a love-hate relationship with this series, and a Twilight sequel Forever Dawn would likely generate plenty of debate about Jacob! The series would likely be much shorter with a major emphasis on Edward. Fans would be forced to consider their thoughts on the Jacob motivation in Twilight,
