The Village People, a iconic disco group are scheduled to perform at several inaugural events for President-elect Donald Trump , which has brought back conversations on their most known songs. While seemingly unusual this band brings a unique form of energy to any event.
The group agreed to perform at both the Make America Great Again Victory Rally and also the Liberty Ball during the inauguration of President Trump . This had caused some conversation within fans with differing political views.
Their song "Y.M.C.A" has become closely connected with Donald Trump's political events over recent years with it being a regular part of rallies. They even mentioned that it went back up to number 1 on billboard when featured during a Trump rally, which proves their music is still popular among many.
Many individuals in the LGBTQ community see the “Y.M.C.A.” as an anthem for their culture but despite that interpretation they will still be a part of these events for President Trump's inauguration. Many different viewers were also surprised with the pairing at a political event.
The only original member Victor Willis said they had agreed to play at Trump's inauguration since their belief is that music is separate from politics and for the fans. He also claims that the song was never intended to be viewed as a gay anthem though they also support fans using it to connect with culture.
This group gained a lot of momentum in the disco era. Their songs such as "Y.M.C.A.", "Macho Man" and others have had an affect on many and their unique style had brought an uplifting sound to the airwaves during a time when the style was booming.
The Village People were a notable force within the disco era which has helped the group's staying power. Despite having many years pass they still garner attention and positive reviews as the songs live on in different contexts within pop culture with their iconic costumed personalities as well.
