This movie has made waves within Horror films - but unfortunately it’s very unlikely that those hopes will materialize for fans who want a new installment. Jennifer Kent - the director of The Babadook Movie has expressed little interest in doing another production - especially since her main concern is her current focus on other productions, including those that would bring audiences a horror series.

Why Did the Babadook Movie Gain Popularity?
While the original Babadook Movie (a 2014 Horror film directed by Jennifer Kent) made only a minor impact on the Babadook Australia Box Office. It quickly became popular in other markets such as the United Kingdom and France. Many praised it for being a groundbreaking take on horror films.
The story featured those compelling events that took place in the Film - including a strong and chilling performance from Essie Davis, who plays a widowed mom battling a horrific Monster - it’s credited for its psychological depth, and in addition to showing a unique visual style for those who enjoy the horror genre.
Are There Other Movies That Jennifer Kent Made?
Jennifer Kent (known as The Babadook Director) is best known for being an Australian filmmaker, and is also regarded for the dark and disturbing nature of those films. A strong example would include: "The Nightingale" (2018). A production set in colonial Australia and it follows an Australian Irish convict who goes on a journey to seek revenge.
In recent production endeavors, it seems as if Kent has moved beyond those "horror" roles and taken on a different creative path - she was also an important part of Guillermo del Toro Cabinet of Curiosities, in which she created an episode "The Murmuring." Many praised her talents in showcasing those diverse stories - each of which captured different styles - with dark, suspenseful and moving stories - but her foray into horror, is something that has continued to remain memorable. It’s an element of the film world that Kent does seem to return to periodically.
What Is The Babadook Ending About?
While fans enjoy "The Babadook" for its horrifying, and sometimes disturbing characters (The Babadook and its eerie voice, along with the way it manifests to scare those that become entrapped within this story), its ending may be the biggest surprise - which could be regarded as being one of those events that leaves a lasting impact - as we are forced to think more about what this horror Movie's purpose is - one that deals with themes about grief and coping with loss.
As the film ends - Amelia (who plays the mother in this story, and, possibly, one of the most remarkable, chilling characters within this horror film ), finds a way to accept those dark forces that are associated with her trauma - ultimately realizing the "creature" is one that she’s been harboring and allowing it to influence her. With those dark forces now trapped in the basement - a metaphor for her own journey and what lies in the dark recesses of her mind - The Babadook will likely be around, but, Amelia is prepared to face it as it shows the journey towards resilience and acceptance that this mother undertakes, to heal from loss.
Why Is a Babadook Sequel Unlikely?
Even though fans of this film often talk about a Babadook Movie Sequel - a common question amongst Horror lovers who were enamored by how Jennifer Kent’s vision was able to create an intriguing The Babadook Story (one that revolved around a widowed mom, Amelia - who is forced to contend with a dark and powerful monster as well as a son - Samuel - who was experiencing some serious issues - in addition to their relationship) and the compelling The Babadook Characters. However, for those who seek a new Babadook 2 Movie - those chances appear to be very limited. It seems as if there are a number of reasons for that.
As Jennifer Kent stated - it seems as if the main character is already on a path toward a healing process (especially considering how the story unfolds in the ending), so a new film would have to tackle those themes or take a very distinct approach, something that seems to have limited appeal - which is partially why there are very limited Babadook 2 Chances.

Even so, The Babadook has continued to gather a dedicated fan base over a decade and it continues to remain as one of the most popular, chilling horror stories.
