The Acolyte's Jedi Fate Foreshadows The Fall of the Order: A Warning From Tragedy of One Jedi.

Master Torbin turned to the Force toward absolution and escape.

The premiere of The Acolyte exposed Master Torbin's Barash Vow taking. Those Jedi who want to commit themselves to contact with the Force take the Barash Vow in Star Wars mythology. These Jedi basically cut off their usual activities as Jedi and enter a deep meditative state, withdrawing into themselves to locate the solutions they are looking for. Many Jedi make this pledge as a kind of penance; they believe they have done something to dishonor the Jedi Order and the light side of the Force and are seeking absolution, therefore atoning for their crimes.

The Star Wars comics claim that although just three have ever been canonically named, over 14,000 Jedi have taken the Barash Vow over the history of the Jedi Order. Although it's still unknown exactly what Torbin did that would make him feel so regretful he'd undertake the Barash Vow and be ready to harm himself, it is apparent Torbin let his dread and guilt, two negative emotions linked with the dark side, overpower him. Often a last resort, Torbin withdrew in on himself, cut off communication with the outer world, and let a dark side acolyte manage his emotions. Though on a far more grand scale, this is basically what later events for the Jedi also entail.

The Jedi Retrained in Dark Fear

The Jedi start to withdraw within on themselves too in the century between The Acolyte and Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The Acolyte takes set during the High Republic era, when the Jedi were dispersed around the galaxy with Temples on several planets and outreach activities running across the Outer Rim and beyond. They were open to helping anybody they came across on their travels and easily available to anyone in need. That side of the Jedi disappears by the time the Star Wars prequel trilogy runs through.

Rather, they have gone to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and only go when the Republic requires them to or upon direct touch with someone they trust. Between The Acolyte and The Phantom Menace, the Jedi developed both excessive reliance on Republic direction and mistrust of their own judgment. Their fall from grace began there. Whether that was the darkness of the creatures known as the Nameless, introduced in The High Republic books and comics – they feed on a Jedi's connection to the Force until the Jedi are left as shriveled husks – or the darkness of the Sith and their followers as shown in The Acolyte, it's difficult to say. The Jedi feared the darkness. Most certainly is a mix of both. They became vulnerable to an attack by retreating from the galaxy and fearing the darkness, like what happened with Master Torbin in The Acolyte.

Tragic Fate of One Acolyte Jedi Predicts Jedi Order Fall

Though many Jedi are under attack in The Acolyte, one Jedi's sad destiny especially suggests the collapse of the whole Jedi Order. A few chosen Jedi are under hunt in The Acolyte under the deadly assassin Mae (Amandla Stenberg). Torbin (Dean-Charles Chapman), her Master, Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss), Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae), and the Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo) seemed to have played a part in the destruction of her house and coven, even if the rest of The Acolyte still has plenty of secrets to uncover. Though one of those Jedi is especially difficult to kill, Mae seeks retribution.

In the second Acolyte episode, "Revenge/Justice," Mae follows Torbin to a Temple on the planet Olega. Master Torbin has shielded himself with a strong Force field in a deep meditating state, even though she intends to kill him in a fight. Not able to hit him with a weapon, Mae adopts a completely more cruel attitude. Mae persuadesively gets Torbin to swallow a bottle of poison by using his remorse against him. Although Torbin clearly feels relief, his voluntary submission to Mae exposes a much more serious problem both inside Torbin and throughout the Jedi Order itself.

The Acolyte: Describes what?

Set inside the Star Wars world, the television series The Acolyte chronicles the end of the High Republic Era. The Jedi and the Galactic Republic were most strong at this period. All of this resulted in evil rising from below the surface and poised to bring about the fall from the High Republic, a former Padawan reunites with her former Jedi Master as they investigate several crimes in this sci-fi thriller.

They felt safe inside the comfort of their bubble.

Though darkness can emanate from within as well as attack from the outside, the Jedi felt that reflection would help them battle against their defects, guilt, wavering self-belief, and approaching doom. They let everything terrible grow and decay by basically isolating themselves; by the time they discovered what was occurring, it was too late.

Mae had not given Torbin an opportunity to really work through his remorse and feelings, hence she knew precisely what to say to make him swallow the poison. Having not dealt with their anxiety, Palpatine knew just how to drive the Jedi Order toward their demise without ever showing himself as a Sith. Should Master Torbin in Star Wars: The Acolyte have been a warning for the Jedi, instead they committed the same exact error.
