Terrifier 3's Killer Cliffhanger: Art the Clown's Actor Spills the Tea!
Terrifier 3's Ending: A Bloody Showdown and a Very Uncertain Future!
Terrifier 3 ended with a seriously wild cliffhanger! Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) and a possessed Vicky nearly got Sienna and her family. Sienna fights back, using her sword to seriously injure Art and killing Vicky. But as Sienna gets distracted saving her cousin from a hellish portal, Art escapes. He freaks out a bus driver and passenger along the way, demonstrating how insane this encounter is going to end!
We spoke with Thornton about that epic, bloody conclusion; the craziest ending seen so far. And he had amazing insights! He called the ending "his favorite moment in the movie," and his remarks imply some amazing developments are happening to Art. It creates both new plot and opportunities. The comments emphasize those vulnerabilities within Art's very nature. It opens doors for incredible opportunities and additional story-building to understand this iconic and yet insane villain that everyone now finds to be utterly chilling, as demonstrated throughout the films. What's Art's mental state after Vicky's death? What happened in those missing events between their final appearance? And will those plot developments ever come back for any future installment? The excitement remains real.
Thornton's Insights: A Vulnerable Art and a "Very Equal" State for the Next Film
Here’s exactly what Thornton shared: "I was very stoked, but I think that the moment I was most excited for was the ending, because the first draft of the script, I liked how Damien ended this film. It's not one of those happy upbeat endings, it kind of ends on a cliffhanger, and I was really excited for that, because I thought it left both of these characters in a very equal state of being, and both in very vulnerable states of being, and that made me very excited. I feel that that's giving us an interesting place to go going forward into the next film, and a lot of new possibilities that we can explore with these characters, especially Art. I think we can tap more into his mental state now, because he's lost a lot, and he's actually having to deal with loss, and I'm excited to see what possibilities we can go with him going forward with him in that next film."
Thornton emphasizes this moment: the equal vulnerability of Art and Sienna. That leaves the door wide open for those anticipated Terrifier 4. It also implies some kind of serious mental unraveling, given how Art handles Vicky's death and will be important to focus on the mental and emotional turmoil Art undergoes after the defeat of those previously related individuals in the storyline that came prior. Those kinds of comments emphasize that this shift into deeper development around the character will truly pay off in the longer run!
The Bus Scene: Art's Alone, Searching For His Next Victims
That bus scene? Art's totally alone. Covered in blood, the iconic Killer Clown prepares to prey on someone else again. He gets a creepy grin while using Vicky's Santa Claus horn. It feels disturbing! It really showcases that vulnerable Art. And how he must now continue after the end of those earlier encounters which previously kept him motivated for revenge; however that key individual who kept motivating him, now no longer exists, this change has serious impacts for Art’s entire identity. This change, moving into deeper development on those themes is incredibly important.
This new direction will get intensely personal, really exploring Art's past. It also implies he’ll be dealing with many issues around loss and mental fragility. Those revelations make Terrifier 4 all the more interesting and really set things up.
Conclusion: Art the Clown's Reign of Terror Isn't Over (Not By a Long Shot!)
Terrifier 3 is seriously intense – lots of shocking gore and shocking violence that would really shock any new viewer and really disturb everyone in attendance! But it’s more than just cheap shocks; it’s also setting things up. That ending shows Art in this raw and extremely vulnerable state, paving the way for deep development, explaining his shocking, disturbing past; answering many questions and hopefully fully revealing some parts about Art's personality and creating those critical turning points which emphasize Art’s motivations! The finale shows that those creators intend to deliver much more about him than previously was initially explored. Prepare yourselves! The crazy clown isn’t done just yet! We really, really are not done!
