The 2025 Rodeo Houston lineup has been officially announced showcasing various popular and new artists. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo remains a much anticipated event with various activities planned for all that attend.
The entertainment schedule for this year offers a wide array of genres such as country, pop, rock and R&B. Nine performers are scheduled for the first time with a focus on including both beloved veterans of the stage along with rising stars from different areas of the music scene. Some notable performances that will be at the show include Grupo Frontera, Reba McEntire and Luke Bryan.
Reba McEntire will return after 11 years making this the 20th performance for the famed country star. She is the first woman to be added to the star trail of fame in the history of this event. Having a huge resume in television and as a country legend this is a much celebrated event in this location. Her name in any event always drives a very positive reaction.
The show strives to incorporate cultural aspects of Houston’s traditions, history and community. The diversity includes the music selection with acts that range from pop rock, Mexican and R&B.
In addition to Reba some other names who are part of the lineup are Post Malone, Bun B along with up and coming country artists. This list has a wide mix of talent in different areas to showcase the full breadth of popular genres across the board.
Pop superstar Post Malone will be a first time performer. The Houston based rapper had previous engagement in that same space having a haltime show with Beyonce. He creates a unique dynamic for those of the Houston area adding another new element to the variety that Rodeo Houston provides.
Houston rap icon Bun B who is also a restauranteur will be a headliner again on Black Heritage Night which showcases talent in rap R&B and pop. He serves as the host each year bringing his various connections. However his repeated bookings also has given the community mixed opinions that there are plenty of other black artists in Texas and the Houston area. Those who enjoy his performance tend to show their support via the ticket sales.
The lineup includes both artists that have a long history with the event with 9 first timers to include new fan engagement. Along with Reba also making returns are Brooks & Dunn and Brad Paisley.
New acts such as rising stars Zach Top and Charley Crockett have gotten booked for a performance spot which showcases both how important the rodeo has become for launching artists as well as the push for traditional country to make it onto popular stages and their first large performances of their careers.
The ongoing role that Bun B has in Black Heritage night continues to stir up questions on diversity for other talent. While his performances often attract new viewers and fans he has also received negative feedback stating that the Houston area has more talent which can get its turn. This makes some feel the choice of only having one main black artist does not showcase an equal platform for other up and coming acts.
Individual tickets will go on sale on January 16, 2025 in a two-wave release schedule which include 10 a.m. for the first 10 dates followed by 2 p.m. for the remaining 10 scheduled performances. There will be a waiting room 30 minutes prior to tickets opening.
Beginning in 1932 the Rodeo came into being to give Texas Cattle farmers a lift when they had been experiencing struggles during the Great Depression. Originally referred to as the “Houston Fat Stock and Livestock Exposition,” this was meant as a chance for the public to become excited about buying cattle for consumption.
Rodeo Houston has become a major cultural event for the city that celebrates the values and western heritage while welcoming various forms of entertainment for all ages and taste. Every aspect showcases how much thought is behind all of the planning and it has become a well oiled machine for the entertainment value.
From showcasing live music, great food, and amusement rides they make sure there is a blend for both historical relevance with modern entertainment aspects. The Rodeo also is meant to reflect the culture of Texas with the use of art, design and talent throughout all activities in that setting.
