Review: LEGO's New Mando S3 Sets Are The Ideal Approach To Execute Star Wars Battles
Two fresh Mandalorian sets from LEGO Star Wars have been unveiled. Inspired by the latter episodes of The Mandalorian season 3 and the Reclamation of Mandalore, these fresh models incorporate brand-new Star Wars minifigues and backdrops reflecting the Imperial Remnant's covert activities on the Mandalorian homeworld. Likewise, the new sets are a perfect illustration of what the LEGO Group should keep producing depending on locales and/or conflicts from the galaxy far, far away.
Published on June 1st, and accessible for purchase are LEGO's Ambush on Mandalore (75373) and Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle (75386). Featuring prominent characters from The Mandalorian season 3 and warriors of the Imperial Remnant with fresh designs and minifigure molds, both are from the last fight on Mandalore. One of the best things, though, is that both Sets can be mixed to provide an even larger and better set for LEGO Star Wars aficioners. Our practical study of both LEGO's new Mandalorian sets follows here.
Build Breakdown for the LEGO Ambush on Mandalore Battle Pack (75373).
Name: Piece Count; Price: Minifigues; Ages: Name
--- |--- |--- |--- |--- |
Ambushed on Mandalore Battle Pack (75373) | 109 | $19.99 | 4 | 6+
With 109 pieces, LEGO's new Ambush on Mandalore Battle Pack is a quick and simple construction. It's also one with fresh Imperial minifigues as the main attraction. With enough blasters for every minifigure, the basic backdrop is a nice mix of gray and tan rock pieces, so reflecting the secret base of the Imperial Remnant on Mandalore as observed in The Mandalorian season 3, held within a network of caverns close to the planet's mines and stores of valuable Beskar steel.
Along with a translucent curved bar with an axel end, the combat pack build lets Mandalorians or Imperial Commandos be seen flying their respective jetpacks, hence bringing the battle to the skies. Along with a munitions chest to contain extra thermal detonator pieces, the battle pack also boasts a turret. Priced at $20, given the presence of four minifigues, the general build and price-to----piece ratio seems reasonable in the current day. Create a breakdown for Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle (75386).
Name: Piece Count; Price: Minifigues; Ages: Name
--- |--- |--- |--- |--- |
Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle | 75386 |286 | $39.99 | 4 | 7+
Though not by much, LEGO's other new Mandalorian set comes in at286 pieces, clearly more than their first set. Given this bundle only consists of four minifigues as well, the $40 price tag feels more outrageous. That said, the set itself will most definitely appeal to fans of The Mandalorian season 3, showing Paz Vizsla's sad sacrifice at the hands of Moff Gideon in his new Mandalorian combat gear and his new Praetorian guards, the forebears of those serving Snoke in The Last Jedi.
The construction uses a collection of gray and tan parts to represent the usual Mandalore terrain. It also features the blast door that isolates Paz Vizsla from his fellow Mandalorians during their initial raid on Gideon's base as seen in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 7. Thus, the blast door can descend using a well-built mechanism that lets it rapidly drop by just pushing a lever on the rear of the model. Joining the top of the mountable and rotating turret with its twin stud-shooter cannons, this is a quite nice play feature. Buy Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle on LEGO.com by clicking here.
Examining closer both of LEGO's new mando S3 minifigues
Although Ambush on Mandalore boasts both a blue-armored Mandalorian and a blue-armored Nite Owl, the brand-new Imperial Commandos are what really excite from this new LEGO Star Wars Battle Pack. With brand-new helmet molds and printing, Ambush on Mandalore is the first time this unusual stormtrooper type has undergone brick-built treatment. Thanks to Gideon's Imperial Commandos, one can picture collectors purchasing several copies of this new LEGO Battle Pack, particularly those interested army-building with legions of minifigues.
Likewise, LEGO Star Wars' Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle features a brand-new minifigure of Moff Gideon donning the special all-black Mandalorian armor he had custom-built ahead of The Mandalorian season 3 and its last episodes. Along with new helmets for the two red-armored Praetorian Guards that surrounded Gideon and gave the fatal blows to Vizsla in the classic Star Wars series, this contains a new helmet mold for Gideon's horned helmet and crimson visor. Although a Paz Vizsla minifigger was seen in The Armorer's Mandalorian Forge in 2021, this new model's Vizsla does have some subdued changes in the printing.
Combining LEGO's New Mandalorian Sets Is A No-Brainer
One of the most fascinating aspects of both LEGO's new Mandalorian Sets is that they were created especially to be joined into one larger model by buyers of both. Every set has a simple corner connection point that collectors could readily adjust and replace based on their desired orientation. This is not unlike LEGO's recent sets inspired by James Cameron's Avatar movies, which also came with this simple yet exciting "linking" feature, making sets with shared terrain and/or from the same location even bigger as one continuous build.
Therefore, one would expect this feature to carry on with next LEGO Star Wars using models inspired by events and other conflicts instead of vehicles and ships alone. It's a great way to depict the full scope of a battle from the galaxy far, far away as seen with these new models which both depict the Reclamation of Mandalore where Mandalorians went to war with Gideon's faction of the Imperial Remnant. To that end, LEGO's Ambush on Mandalore Battle Pack is just begging to be paired with Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle (and vice versa).
