What is "It Ends With Us" about?
This movie is based on a really popular Colleen Hoover book about a woman named Lily. It’s a romantic drama, but with a really intense and emotional twist - we're dealing with some real tough stuff, like domestic abuse and how hard it can be to get out of a bad relationship. The It Ends With Us cast has some serious acting talent, too, which definitely adds to the overall impact.
How Does The Ending Work Out?
Get ready for some strong opinions, because this one is tricky! Some people have loved the book and loved the ending of the movie! It gives the impression that Lily might be able to be with her love - Atlas, which might happen after the movie, and even a future "It Ends With Us Sequel".
The big difference? Well, it all has to do with Lily's super controlling ex-boyfriend - Ryle! He does bad things, and the director of the film - Justin Baldoni, said they decided to not give Ryle a “happily-ever-after”. Ryle isn't the good guy in this It Ends With Us plot.
What are they saying about Lily, Atlas, and Ryle?
- The movie didn't really show what Lily went through, to heal before just moving on to another guy. The producers, like Alex Saks, wanted the story to feel more “feminist.”
- The creators really made Ryle into a huge bad guy, to highlight domestic violence. That way, fans understand why he is not part of Lily's happy ending - she totally gets to choose who's in her life and has to deal with her pain in order to really get better.
What's With the Controversy?
- This is why it has stirred up controversy - it is tough to handle because those real issues come into play! This feminist film aims to take a stand against violence. It is more about being powerful in tough situations - even if Lily has to face those challenges!
- They went with the hope that Lily can make her own path - without the “glamorized” side to that relationship, which people have said that Colleen Hoover kind of did! There is hope, but no clear “happily-ever-after”.
Should Fans of The Book See The Movie?
A lot of people really loved the book. It got a big buzz. But they are saying it isn't necessarily an “accurate” version of the story because those themes of violence can get misrepresented - and even have a feminist twist when it’s brought to the screen! But fans who've seen it - have really enjoyed seeing all those things, and they liked that they got to see this love story evolve in such a powerful way.
This is one of those movies that makes people talk - you will definitely be having those big It Ends With Us ending discussions, because it will stir some pretty intense emotions. This movie will really stick with you after you've watched it!
