Movies News Talk
So, "It Ends With Us", starring Blake Lively and based on the famous Colleen Hoover novel, hit theaters. It seems everyone had an opinion about it, critics and movie fans alike! The movie tackles an intense subject – an abusive relationship – which made everyone raise an eyebrow before it even opened, but does it manage to actually be good?
Rotten Tomatoes currently shows a pretty average score of 56% from reviewers. While some loved it, some critics weren’t feeling it, meaning a big chunk of people aren't super impressed. A lot of those critics bring up how "It Ends With Us" is really intense and melodramatic. But, this movie has a long way to go, because those numbers can totally change as more critics chime in.
Everyone's heard of "The Age of Adaline" , Blake's 2015 film where she plays a lady who never ages! That one, for sure, had its share of drama because some thought it was just "eh", but audiences seemed to love it, even though it got some mixed reviews. It’s worth mentioning that The Age of Adaline did a pretty good run at the box office, too. So what we see now with "It Ends with Us", maybe critics are kinda missing the boat and audiences are actually going to get something they really love! The world's already full of really big hits that critics weren’t sure about.
We don't know how well “It Ends with Us” will actually do when regular folks weigh in. We know it's been sparking up a ton of discussion on social media. Will people really want to see this story on screen, or are they just going to be confused? Maybe it'll make a bunch of people start a convo, like “Is it actually a good idea to show this?” Or “Does it actually make abuse more alluring?” Let’s see!
"It Ends with Us" is definitely not a regular romance movie! The whole movie revolves around this love story, but the relationship is built on really complicated stuff. And even though there's drama and a whole “bad boy/good girl" vibe, it's definitely not like the usual stuff in most romance films, because of the subject matter. People are concerned if the film's going to glamourize an abusive relationship. It’s tough!
A bunch of audiences are feeling torn. If it’s done well, it could spark conversations that’ll actually help folks to understand abuse, especially young audiences. But, the flip side is it'll possibly be harmful to others, who don't understand how dangerous that really is.
We know it’s a massive book series (people who love the novel were really hyped up for the film) but that doesn’t necessarily translate to box office success. The studio’s got big hopes, but they'll have to navigate that really difficult territory between romance, intense themes, and those who might think it’s going too far.
This film has the power to do good. If they manage to tell this story respectfully, it'll really bring attention to the problem. Or if they miss the mark, it could have negative consequences, especially for those who are going through or have experienced an abusive relationship. Let's just hope they’ll take this big responsibility seriously.
