The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a large event that celebrates Western culture, music and a long history. In 2025, the event promises to bring another exciting mix of performances from all types of genres along with classic traditions that makes this event so unique.
The highly anticipated reveal showcased a roster of 20 different performers including musicians and new talent all hitting the stage between March 4 through March 23 with both new and familiar faces. A full range of various artists and styles for their fans.
The lineup balances different styles including country with Reba McEntire, to rising stars such as Zach Top . In addition, popular pop and rock and even regional Mexican artists create new dimensions to each experience. Post Malone will also grace the stage while creating another major moment in the rodeo's history.
The iconic country star Reba McEntire will start the rodeo for the 20th time in her career. While being inducted into the Star Trail of Fame in 2007 this return had fans and people excited as one of the show's favorites was coming back.
Several nights will feature the unique culture of Houston including the much anticipated return of Bun B for his "Birthday Bonanza" during the Black Heritage Day celebration, adding to an already impressive line up. In addition, Go Tejano Day will include the group Groupo Frontera highlighting another strong culture.
While some complain this performance has become routine and there should be more spotlight on other black artists for Black Heritage Night many other fans enjoy Bun B's shows with all the friends and special guests that he brings. He was a key player during 2024 bringing Drake onto the show creating a performance like no other seen during this annual event. His partnership with Trill Burgers and the rodeo also helps to solidify him for the show and popularity among the viewers.
Individual tickets were released in waves on January 16 giving many options to see multiple events with a few different times of release. Ticket purchasing was structured in waves at 10 a.m. for some of the performers and a second wave for remaining performances that began at 2 pm that same day.
A pre purchase of Season tickets were also made available to those who did not want to wait to purchase the single date. For the fans of BBQ there was also a chance to have VIP passes to the "World Championship BBQ Competition".
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's beginnings date all the way back to 1932 which was a pivotal meeting between men at the Texas State Hotel to address how the cattle industry would survive in the Great Depression. This conversation sparked a yearly event to not only save cattle farming but also showcase new and diverse music throughout many stages.
It was originally started to revitalize the cattle industry. Now it continues to draw many in to Texas each year for a taste of Houston's unique blend of art music and culture, as this is more than just a rodeo it is an entire community experience. With both visual and performance the message is carried further by the people and their connection with the events.
Newcomers such as Zach Top will debut his first large stage performance which marks his rise in traditional country music. In addition both the band AJR will add a taste of pop. In total nine acts will have their first chance at the main event during this spectacle. With many newcomers it keeps a level of originality by presenting many styles to a broader audience.
In addition to all the new talent there are also familiar well loved names. Luke Bryan, Parker McCollum, Journey and many others show different levels of history in all different areas creating memorable and unique moments. With classic favorites that are loved from different walks of life there is also new emerging talent that shows potential.
The rodeo is known for entertainment both on the main stage and around the facility. A wide variety of fried foods are available along with different attractions such as carnivals to create the full rodeo experience beyond just music and live stage performances. It gives every level of experience for fans while showing all levels of cultural expression within Houston's boundaries.
Beyond entertainment this serves as a major tradition with economic benefit by allowing many opportunities in a growing market for a large number of both people who work the event to local businesses which are effected through out the rodeo dates. The tradition is something which brings value to both the individuals within Texas as well as for any person looking to learn the values that can be found in each aspect.
