Hitman and Agent 47: Surprise Netflix Hits - What's the Buzz?

Did you know that Hitman (starring Timothy Olyphant) and its reboot, Hitman: Agent 47 (with Rupert Friend), both critically panned by fans, have gained new life as Netflix hits! These were two releases that everyone knew!

Hitman and Agent 47 Become Netflix Hits

The first installment came out back in 2007, and this time, Timothy Olyphant got to take on the role of Agent 47, one who's engineered for his craft. And is well known for killing bad guys, while having a crazy backstory as an assassin!

There was so much interest in the game that a few years later there was a reboot, and for that they brought in a well-known actor: Rupert Friend for this role, with a huge change from Olyphant's performance. Both had very strong acting, but a distinct flair, one more toned down!

Even though fans watched these films back in their initial run they didn't quite have the same success!

Negative Reception of Both Films

There were quite a few complaints.

Both received major negative press.
In addition to the critiques from film critics, fans too found problems with them.
The plots were incredibly confusing, even for those who watched Hitman!

But if you were going to judge solely on the numbers. That would be the wrong take. While Hitman may have had more criticism, it still made good money with $101 Million in box office gross from just a $24 Million budget. In the next installment, Hitman: Agent 47 took in nearly $82 Million at the box office.

While things can happen for films in their initial theatrical run, the streaming giants might provide something totally different!

Hitman - has gained immense popularity. In fact, during the week of September 23-29, 2024! It was so popular! "Netflix" has revealed, "Hitman" earned over 3.1 Million Views!!
That was 4.9 Million Hours of watch time.
"Hitman: Agent 47 is looking like it will also make its way onto everyone's favorite movie list!
It hit over 3.5 Million Views!
An impressive total that also gained 5.6 Million Hours of viewing time.

Netflix's Success Story

Why did both of these films that flopped hard at the box office do so well? What could possibly account for their great success?

Netflix may have found the "magic touch"! While critics might have loved them or disliked them, fans seemed to be able to embrace them.
Maybe people liked the idea that these were action-packed, intense and just thrilling enough to leave audiences excited.

It seems Netflix's influence gives us another understanding that some films have a life beyond the initial theatrical run, even those that were not exactly a hit at the box office. This makes it apparent that no film is really over!
