Netflix Unwraps 'Happy Gilmore 2' Trailer: A 28-Year Sequel Featuring Returning Stars and New Faces

Netflix shared a surprise Christmas present with a trailer release for Happy Gilmore 2 the 1996 comedy sequel that helped solidify Adam Sandler’s movie stardom. The trailer appeared amidst its live NFL Christmas Gameday show which built on existing excitement among fans for an extended run.

Adam Sandler will reprise his role as Happy Gilmore the famous hockey player turned golfer also included Christopher McDonald Julie Bowen Dennis Dugan Allen Covert and Ben Stiller returning to their familiar roles from original movie Happy Gilmore. The movie sequel directed by Dennis Dugan has been under works since Sandler hinted it back in 2022 revealing his return in his senior golf circuit . Ben Stiller will reprise Hal L from Happy Gilmore this is a role he had during Happy Gilmore but also was brought to Hubie Halloween movie from 2020.

The Happy Gilmore 2 sequel marks the 13th time that Sandler has worked in collaboration with writing partner Tim Herlihy who worked with him on Saturday Night Live also along side Tina Fey as they grew their fame in the early 1990's. Tim Herlihy had his major work with Sandler at Saturday Night Live when also collaborating with Tina Fey showcasing their amazing dynamic and comic output. When Sandler moved on from Saturday Night Live he started collaborating with Herlihy developing a brand of man-child-out-of-water films beginning with Billy Madison in 1995 as well as Happy Gilmore from 1996.

Bad Bunny joins the ensemble cast including Margaret Qualley from The Substance with Sandler comedy regular Nick Swardson and actor-director Benny Safdie also joining who made the film Uncut Gems that featured Sandler's acting style. Special cameo appearances in Happy Gilmore 2 include a variety of talents with rapper Eminem football star Travis Kelce and TV host Dan Patrick bringing variety and name appeal to this Netflix production. In 2020 Netflix and Sandler extended a contract between them to produce four new films under the Happy Madison Production banner. The initial deal in 2014 led to Netflix productions such as The Ridiculous 6 The Do-Over Sandy Wexler The Week Of Murder Mystery and 100% Fresh that showed a fruitful start of this successful working relationship between all parties involved. Netflix claimed that Murder Mystery was the most viewed movie in the streaming service of the 2019 period showing strong user engagement from Sandler’s comedy movies in their database. Netflix did not give a specific release date for Happy Gilmore 2 instead the trailer hinted a 2025 window for future release.
