Final-round Grammy voting officially concluded on January 3 which is why it’s time to predict the winners of main General Field awards for the 2025 Grammy s. The general field categories includes album record and song of the year with best new artist producer and songwriter awards following Recording Academy rules. All voting members decide general categories then vote for no more than 10 categories for each genre category showcasing many popular choices this year.
Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan earned a Grammy nomination across each big four category for the first time showing huge breakthrough in music. Daniel Nigro also has recognition for album record and song of the year because of working with Chappell Roan as well as a producer of the year non-classical nomination. The upcoming Grammy’s in Los Angeles could be a landmark occasion across many categories.
Grammy awards history will see if Beyoncé wins album of the year for first time despite already collecting 32 awards setting up for an engaging evening for audiences to witness. Her husband Jay-Z already addressed her past snubs from Grammy during his Grammy speech last February that generated new discussions among music followers who know the struggle Beyonce faced previously . Grammy voters will likely consider Jay Z’s statements which may create some added pressure for those voting in those particular categories.
The 2025 Album of the Year nominees include: André 3000’s New Blue Sun Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Charli XCX’s BRAT Jacob Collier’s Djesse Vol 4 Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess and Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department all showcasing different musical styles. Collier's album wasn't nominated in its genre album making it an outlier given the trend of albums who do well in the award ceremony receiving similar nods from all categories. Beyoncé's album being recognized in country categories might be seen as important but its potential remains unknown given her genre is usually considered R&B. Swift previously secured four wins with the most recent being last year's Midnights. If she wins again she will tie previous double winner like Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder for highest amount of victories in a row.
Billie Eilish and Andre 3000 each have secured past victories in album of year. Andre 3000 if successful may follow previous examples of artists George Michael and Lauryn Hill who both won in this category for their solo debut efforts while leaving their bands or groups previously. Chappell Roan could potentially secure a win for her debut studio album following the history made by Billie Eilish’s album ‘When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go’. Cowboy Carter features many diverse artists including Paul McCartney Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton so the large list of featured artists may gain some votes for Beyonce making this category very important. Beyoncé even headlined a Texans Ravens NFL halftime show which made use of her latest Cowboy Carter hits midway through the final round voting period in December which will likely gain attention and interest from general public and Grammy voters alike.
Record of the Year nominees feature: The Beatles’ “Now and Then” Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ’Em” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” Charli XCX’s “360” Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck Babe!” and Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone’s “Fortnight” as viable candidates. Billie Eilish previously secured two victories and she could be tied with three time winner Paul Simon with another win for single releases from album. The Beatles despite nominations for songs “I Want to Hold Your Hand” “Yesterday” “Hey Jude” and “Let It Be” have never won this category making it very unique despite how the song 'Now And Then' is still beloved among many fans.
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are only members of The Beatles up for nomination for “Now and Then.” Paul McCartney could sweep awards similar to previous big winner with Song of the Year coming as the next award for this potential achievement. Beyoncé secured nine nominations for record of year with no prior win within the category for her previously popular songs. Chappell Roan’s "Good Luck Babe!" has gained immense attention by having storyline connecting directly with listeners showing that specific instances can be broadly appealing. Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” a Drake diss song may see great performance considering how other Hip-Hop singles have been recognized previously though its social and political messages seem diminished compared to other notable music. Eilish a prior two time winner in this category and one of multiple female solo artist in this particular area may cause a vote split.
Song of the Year nominees include: “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” “Birds of a Feather” “Die With a Smile” “Fortnight” “Good Luck Babe!” “Not Like Us” “Please Please Please” and “Texas Hold ’Em” demonstrating the diversity and complexity in categories awards often overlook. Grammys removed Jerrell Jones Joe Kent and Mark Williams from “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” credits following some concerns on ownership from previous song which showed important distinction for record labels. Eilish and Finneas and D’Mile are all two time winners in this area with Beyoncé and Swift showing multiple nominations but also with few if any wins demonstrating complexities across creative processes. The "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" and "Texas Hold ‘Em" are both up for the country song award making the song of year important battle for those involved and familiar with previous Grammy Awards shows. If Billie and Finneas are successful they can tie D’Mile for becoming second two-time winners within the category along with securing most three times winners.
Best New Artist Nominees include: Benson Boone Sabrina Carpenter Doechii Khruangbin RAYE Chappell Roan Shaboozey and Teddy Swims and also include new diverse group of music styles. This list might allow for another victory for solo female performers as previously seen in prior shows where women win this award making long seven year win streak in this category and potentially another to show women dominance. Khruangbin can become first duo since Macklemore and Ryan Lewis while Boone Shaboozey or Swims could win as first male winner since Chance the Rapper which gives importance and uniqueness for the many talents among contenders. Carpenter and Roan with 6 nominations appear likely to gain some advantage.
The Producer of the Year Non Classical nominees include: Alissia Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II Ian Fitchuk Mustard and Daniel Nigro. The Grammy Nominating Committee did not give Jack Antonoff another nomination this time after having won the category three times showing his work was disregarded this year despite other awards he was mentioned during shows. Grammy rules highlight that first round voting for nominations has its members choose top 30 nominations which are later decided by other committee members who may overwrite rank and file voters choices. Alissia could secure the first ever win for a woman while Daniel Nigro with the most total nominations of the group will be seen by many as a leader.
Songwriter of the Year Non-Classical Nominees are Jessi Alexander Amy Allen Edgar Barrera Jessie Jo Dillon and RAYE presenting both male and female nominees. Male songwriters won during first years before female composers take most slots in nomination this year creating new opportunities for future growth. Allen as the only contender nominated for both songwriter and song of the year stands out along with co-writing success from NSYNC which provides many layers into understanding the behind the scenes talents on stage in music industry today. The Grammy rules state this category of nominees will be chosen through committees that work across all genres which allows opportunity for different types of writers across different styles.
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards happens on February 2 in Los Angeles for many of the top musical talents across different styles. There are 94 award categories and Beyoncè secured most nominations at 11 for Cowboy Carter followed by Charli XCX Billie Eilish and Post Malone who are tied for the second spot with 7 followed by a three way tie between Taylor Swift and both Sabrina Carpenter with Chappell Roan at 6. This diverse nominee list includes well established and emerging talent who all demonstrate innovation in the music industry for different reasons showing this 2025 show to have immense potential.
The Album of the Year competition sees a mixture of former victors with new artists causing uncertainty for odds with various media experts offering different possible winners such as gold derby with varying lists which are based on user votes and preferences. Brat is considered high on critics lists and Cowboy Carter holds most nominations along with major news headlines while Billie Eilish album achieved commercial success which leads her into an advantage according to several sports book and betting odds from many sites that often publish betting results of sporting and other popular cultural events. Billie Eilish recently moved ahead in UK betting odds after previously trailing behind Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
Record of the year lists Sabrina Carpenter as a clear frontrunner with her successful track "Espresso" showing that despite having multiple categories each can have an advantage based on their particular strength with different experts predicting winners across all major categories for the many different and talented stars from global music scene.
