Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2, arriving in theaters November 22nd, is finally here—and the initial reactions are rolling in! Twenty-four years after the original Gladiator (the second-highest-grossing film of 2000, raking in $465.4 million on a $100 million budget), fans get a long-awaited sequel and most reviews are very positive and overwhelmingly support the main decision behind releasing it! This sequel features Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus (son of Russell Crowe's Maximus), who takes on a mentor role with Denzel Washington's Macrinus. Expect some intense gladiator battles and political intrigue as Lucius fights to overthrow the tyrannical emperors Caracalla (Fred Hechinger) and Geta (Joseph Quinn). The stellar cast also includes Pedro Pascal and Connie Nielsen (reprising her role as Lucilla). That already looks incredibly amazing, folks!
After early screenings, those lucky few got to share their thoughts online! This provided several hints towards how this new film was received, as most have largely good reactions!
Most reactions are surprisingly good; that's great to hear, fans are gonna want to look into getting a chance to watch it! Several critics had a great time reviewing it; and praised various things from actors to general plot directions! Here are some highlights from social media:

This overwhelmingly positive response indicates Gladiator 2 has serious potential, achieving that coveted status worthy of being critically lauded, earning immense attention across various sites, both general and niche communities. Could it mirror the original's success? We're betting it might. That's certainly a hopeful indication regarding its likelihood for winning major accolades which the original received. Those extremely good social media responses suggest a lot about the film’s potential; even the points made towards the negative merely highlight areas needing improvements; yet the generally good tone of these very positive responses still really does impact those reviewing it.
Given that very positive reception it does seem possible that the sequel could very well match and outperform the original Gladiator’s Rotten Tomatoes score (an impressive 80%)! Those even stronger initial audience ratings and this kind of incredibly good review response would lead one to expect similar ratings! That makes some speculate about major awards—a Best Picture nomination and/or win might possibly be in the cards (though only two sequels have ever won—with The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King being the most recent). This possibility might seem far off but it demonstrates just how huge the reception actually was for this film and why the anticipation around its future reception is important!
