Big news for fans of terrifying multiplayer games, specifically the awesome Dead by Daylight! Jason Blum (the mastermind behind Blumhouse Productions) gave an update about that planned movie adaptation; a very important addition to the world of horror and gaming! It was announced earlier this year back in March 2023, in partnership with Atomic Monster (James Wan, the guy behind Saw!), and everyone’s excited to see this come to fruition! That movie adaptation will likely only happen after they find that perfect script, showing great awareness for that specific process and he even mentions those difficulties found in Five Nights at Freddy's— a movie that took a full ten years because of script issues!

Here's what Blum said: "It took 10 years to make Five Nights at Freddy’s, and I think one of the reasons the movie worked is because we spent 10 years trying to get it right. I hope we get a script that we love. We’re working on a script, but it could be five years, it could be 12 months. You just don’t know. You can’t make the movie until the script is right, and you don’t know how long that’ll take."

Blum’s comments are vague—totally understandable for Hollywood! Nothing’s certain until it’s out, which demonstrates that he has experienced many challenges in his extensive production experience.

But those comments actually are positive! It means they are actually working on a script which alone, despite sounding simple, suggests someone’s willing to invest and this might mean they think the adaptation is totally doable, a point only clarified when remembering how difficult many game adaptations can sometimes become. This also hints that a movie's actual release might not come through Blumhouse.

Adapting games is incredibly hard. It must satisfy that already existing and extensive fan base and must also bring something unique to the audiences already existing – something far more difficult than merely appeasing the fans. A Dead by Daylight movie is especially difficult! It's got many killers—that requires serious care for its adaptation.

That being said; Blumhouse learned a lot from Five Nights at Freddy's— taking its time helped them create that extremely popular and extremely lucrative project and the creators here definitely showed they are totally dedicated towards getting things right, creating something very interesting in this adaptation! This creates reasons to remain excited for this!
