Jean-Claude Van Damme is back. Did He Ever Leave, though?
Though it begs the issue of whether the actor actually left in the first place, darkness of man promises the return of Jean-Claude Van Damme. Van Damme had his last live-action film appearances in 2021 in Haters and The Last Mercenary, but over the past ten years he has appeared in somewhat consistent flow of films. He even brought back his persona from the long-running Kickboxer series in Kickboxer: Retaliation in 2018. Still, Van Damme's latest works have not drawn as much notice as his career-launching classics. This is natural, but it does not indicate the actor is retired—or dead—as internet voices sometimes assert.
Fascinatingly, given his fighting skills, Van Damme's most well-liked and critically acclaimed films over the past ten years have not been live-action. Van Damme voiced Jean-Clawed in Minions: The Rise of Gru and performed Master Croc from Kung Fu Panda in both of its second and third films. Van Damme even worked in video games, playing Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 1.
Jean-Claude Van Damme Refutes Fighting In Darkness Of Man Clip
New action thriller Darkness of Man from Saban Films features Jean-Claude Van Damme as its star; Screen Rant has a clip including him. James Cullen Bressack (Murder, Anyone?, Beyond the Law) directed the film; Bressack and Alethea Hnatko-Choose wrote it. It chronicles the life of a washed-up former Interpol agent assigned to guard the son of an informant slain during a failed raid.
Screen Rant is pleased to show a clip from Darkness of Man showing Jean-Claude Van Damme's Russell Hatch shown with a risky proposition. Though Russell is clearly hesitant to face a fresh challenge in what is likely to be a life-or-death scenario, Jean-Claude Van Damme's film battles are legendary. View the clip and check out Darkness of Man, which is currently rent- or purchase-able on digital channels.
Seeing one of the most outstanding cinematic martial artists on film still makes one very happy.
Dark of Man tells an emotional story that finds Van Damme's Russell assuming a father role even as he performs what he does best in the face of danger, therefore bringing the icon back into the fold in style. Fans of Jean-Claude Van Damme could be keen to get their hands on Darkness of Man, even if Russell seems to be reluctant to participate in the action in the trailer above.
On digital platforms, darkness of man is currently rent-able or purchaseable.
