It is tough to believe that Kevin Smith's cult classic movie, Clerks was released in 1994. But this unforgettable movie was just a beginning for Smith, launching him into the big-time! The film became part of a popular movie series, including a bunch of awesome sequels and a brand new "View Askewniverse.", creating a legacy of films.
Clerks: An Unforgettable Movie
You have the story of the dynamic duo Dante Hicks (played by Brian O'Halloran) and Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) in Clerks. The two buddies find their home in a convenience store and a video rental shop.
What's great is that we see what makes them such an awesome pair. This film that goes over 30 years! With all those memories of making the movie, Smith has said there were moments where the whole project took a surprising turn, with a change that almost turned it on its head, including its big ending!
A Dark Ending
What really happened with "Clerks"? What you might see in this cult classic? That may have almost come to be is a truly wild scene.
Smith and everyone who worked on the film got so invested in making a scene where a "robber" enters and sadly ends "Dante Hicks life! Smith told the amazing world of GQ. About why this didn't happen!
At the moment that this movie was ready, a "Producer's Rep" called "John Pierson" suggested they cut that last scene and change the course of "Clerks." He believed that if Smith, killed "Dante,", it wouldn't make sense! Pierson suggested the only reason the creator killed "Dante was because the story had no other good ending.
But, for Smith he thought "Dante's death would be the biggest joke! The show gave this hilarious character the best way to be ironic because he was working while he wasn't even supposed to be there! There's that iconic phrase: "I'm not even supposed to be here today!" Smith loved this and realized it had great potential to be much, much more than something that ends tragically!
A Light End:
That's a moment for every fan of Clerks, but you might have missed it if it happened. That is because it really opened up a lot more possibilities.
- Smith was ready for a brighter, more satisfying ending. One that really got fans of Clerks super excited and this is where the change came! The big difference made it possible to move this hilarious series on with more epic installments.
You know all about Clerks, so this gave the opportunity for Smith to take it beyond a one-off and really allow this show to be in many variations.
- He didn't have to go in another direction for Randal.
- The series created new characters that may have made things awesome! But instead, "Smith" chose to continue the story, bringing those who loved the show together.
For those who love the duo and appreciate their special bond fans can go back to watch "Clerks" and understand why Smith's choice was such an important, remarkable choice.

Fans really loved the ending of Clerks 3. This last, most recent film from Smith it was time for him to bring some amazing endings to these characters, adding an amazing twist to their history. Smith made sure he put all those emotional moments to the fore.
