Brave 2: Is a Sequel or Live-Action Remake in the Works?

The release of Brave back in 2012 has continued to be a success, making a huge impression. It really seemed like fans of Disney Pixar loved its iconic princess, Merida and its charming tale! And in 2024 Kelly Macdonald (the voice actor behind Princess Merida ) took some time out to discuss how there just might be some hope of seeing this character again.

Brave came out to critical acclaim. In 2012, this magical story reached 79% on the Tomatometer, with 75% approval from fans and a huge win at the Box Office making over $539 Million with a budget of $185 Million!

Macdonald mentioned the possibility of seeing Brave 2! You won't find an easy, smooth path towards its release.

What Does Kelly Macdonald Think

You won't be seeing her as the star in any big movie adaptations that involve Princess Merida though, Macdonald explained in an interview, why there might not be a sequel that she might be in anytime soon. She talked about the story that was told in the first movie and there was a lot of beauty to Merida's adventure and journey! She felt like it ended in a way that was perfect! She added, too, that a Live-Action Remake wouldn't make sense considering she's now 48 and her younger counterpart in Brave was a 16 year old girl.

It does make a lot of sense. Not just for her age. What is so great about Disney, it often does incredible work with making films! There has been this growing popularity in doing remakes, though that's not something that seems like it will happen! And when it comes to "live-action" reimaginings, "live-action" has some incredible, imaginative moments and brings to the screen, new actors that can be big names in Hollywood!

The Possibility of Brave 2:

If there's a chance that this magical tale might return for Brave 2 it appears to be pretty slim.

In addition to what Macdonald shared about what this kind of project would mean to her! The story also left no opportunity for further expansion, there was a great ending! In this tale, Princess Merida gets a satisfying resolution! She finds joy and strength. This means, that a continuation wouldn't have any reason to make sense!

This makes a big difference compared to how Pixar, for their next big series, will have plenty of new adventures for the incredible Riley who is at the center of their popular "Inside Out" series!

In a couple of Pixar's releases such as "Coco" and "Luca", you can really see that these films all hit on some interesting similar story elements, making Brave 2 less likely.

But if we go through their most successful releases. Their biggest hits are their own unique stories that are told in new, fresh ways and they really hit the box office. The new movie "Inside Out 2, was able to make $1.69 Billion!

There's an argument for why they would try to take a huge gamble with Brave 2. but the studio does like to work with their beloved Disney Pixar franchises! The only concern, that doesn't really make it feasible is what the audience wants.

It’s always a big surprise when these Pixar movies show up in a different genre that isn't "live-action" and there's plenty of fan love out there.

How Brave's Future Might Look

One of those things is, Brave has been successful for its original story, making it such a unique moment for Disney Pixar as it launched a franchise that brought lots of attention. But its success doesn't just come from what they created! But from those that make these movies!

Even more, there may not be much room to create something even more exceptional! The most iconic movie moments of "Inside Out" provided such amazing material!

As far as we can tell right now! A sequel for Brave 2 is unlikely! You never know when a film could pop up. The world of Disney, with Pixar behind them has some impressive ideas that are all coming together and in a world of storytelling, Disney seems to do a great job of giving audiences unique worlds!

There are even some things to note: A major trend right now is doing live-action remakes for their best animated titles, and a remake of Brave may just come out. The future is always up for debate when we talk about the magic of animation. There's always a new chance that Brave may make its way back onto screens, however! But that doesn't necessarily mean that a sequel for Brave is likely to happen, in the future! Fans of the first film will surely want another release, and you might be lucky!

It would be awesome if these magical movies would come back, and if they would make "Brave" come back in some amazing ways, we could also get a live-action remake. Fans will want to be prepared, as they might have more chances to relive these exciting moments from this film!
