The video game Borderlands was a huge success. Now its big screen adventure failed to impress, and audiences did not share the same level of love!
Borderlands movie is making news. And not in the good kind of way. This superstar movie full of amazing talents including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Jamie Lee Curtis! These amazing actors were on board but failed to get a win!
It was a bummer for this huge franchise movie with a massive budget! It came in at over $110 Million. In the box office. However, this release generated less than $30 million for audiences who just didn't get as into it. A large chunk of the funds was from overseas sales, which definitely was not enough, given how successful the games were!
That's why there was an awesome breakdown done by a VFX crew! The popular Corridor Crew, who had amazing content to talk about for years now
If you don't know this Youtube channel! They do this great thing VFX Artists React to Bad & Great CGi, that gave this film a big reality check! Some of their big points about the movie had to do with two big sequences that went wrong: the bar scene and the sniper attack.
They said the problems were centered around the effects: The movie failed to fully embrace the graphic, explosive violence that happens in the game.
The effects and the creative vision that's so unique and iconic, the video game studio, Gearbox Software took a risk that ultimately fell short.
In a recent review, there's a pretty big list of why fans weren't super into "Borderlands!" Reviewers mentioned a lack of interesting and entertaining characters in a way that did nothing new! It really wasn't all about the visual effects.
What stands out is a great example that proves The Corridor Crew had the right idea. In the games, players feel that intense energy and fun but this was a real missed opportunity, according to the video!
It comes down to one idea: The film missed a chance to fully immerse fans in this exciting world. You can say it's a bit ironic too! Because the game is packed with a great deal of over the top, visceral gore and it was toned down for this project! For the sake of reaching more viewers! The downside to this approach is it doesn't hit its mark as a really compelling experience. There's just not the same level of thrills!
The Corridor Crew, mentioned something pretty noteworthy. They really gave a lot of thought to the visual aspect.
You're going to have to make a choice!
The Borderlands story may have fallen a bit flat but it appears that the series is moving forward with another "Borderlands" movie!
There's still so much more to come. As it looks to build its world from that awesome, fun video game that has really grown a global fan base!
This adaptation might not have gone how everyone wanted!
As for fans! It seems you might just have to jump back into those exciting video games. They're a great option. Maybe there will be more success in the future with another attempt at the movie. Who knows? There are more video games out there that haven't even been explored on the big screen, which just might provide those super entertaining experiences that audiences are searching for.
