Borderlands: A Box Office Flop? It's a Rough Ride, Fans
The Borderlands Movie? It might be one of those Films that made people say "meh".
What's the Story Behind This Epic Sci-Fi Movie?
- You have to see the poster! It's totally hilarious. This film came out, but people weren't so into it - it was more like "Boredomlands", according to fans who made fun of it, instead of Borderlands.
- The whole concept was awesome! This big film adaptation is all about these misfits - they're on the planet, Pandora, trying to save a missing girl - it's a classic treasure hunter kind of adventure.
- You can catch it on the big screen! There's Cate Blanchett (always awesome), Kevin Hart, Jack Black - that video game adaptation has so many famous stars! It's kind of weird how it wasn’t so successful with all that amazing talent and the popularity of the video game.
Is Borderlands Really That Bad?
- Yeah, this is what we call a Borderlands failure. It's a brutal, unfortunate story - this one didn't live up to those expectations. If you've been following those video game franchises, you know that those games are super fun and popular! They even gave the movie a really big budget - around $100 million! And then, the critics, didn’t really like it. It didn’t do that well - 9% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ooft, that's bad! The audience scores were actually better at a 51%, so you can kind of see that the fans were willing to give it a chance!
- Those Borderlands characters didn't really convince folks, but, it also doesn't seem like people went out to see the movie, too. It only made about $8.6 million at the box office on its opening weekend. To make things worse, it didn’t even make the top 3! That's why the posters have started making fun of it, saying, it's actually "Boredomlands"! Ouch, right?
- They've got some fun sci-fi elements in it, though, like this really cool action-comedy vibe. I don't know how it got lost in translation!
Is It All Over For Borderlands?
Honestly, we'll have to see how it all pans out for this Film. They had these amazing stars like Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and even Jack Black in this sci-fi adventure. If you love a good Video Game adaptation with those big box office hits - there was potential for this film! Let's hope those changes will make a difference for the film franchise going forward.
Sometimes it seems that those video game franchises can do super well but, unfortunately, don't translate to those Movie Adaptations. Hopefully, the makers learned a lesson!
We still can't resist a good sci-fi story! Maybe next time, the movie can have a bigger opening weekend - maybe they can get closer to their Box Office goals!
