Ballerina: The John Wick Spin-off's Reshoots – A Behind-the-Scenes Look!

The Ballerina Reshoots: Setting the Record Straight!

The John Wick universe continues to expand with Ballerina – the first of many planned spin-offs! It's a thrilling action film featuring Ana de Armas, yet those reshoots created many rumors. Initial reports from The Wrap suggested those reshoots lasted 2-3 months in Prague, with director Len Wiseman absent. But we’ve got the real story! Our sources reveal some critical insights concerning this production that clarifies many details regarding that extensive reshooting phase.

Those reshoots only lasted about 29 days; primarily focused on adding new, impressive and larger-scale action scenes; and did primarily happen in Budapest. This is perfectly consistent with statements previously made by Ian McShane regarding those additions. New actors—David Castañeda (The Umbrella Academy) and Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Dune)—joined for these additional scenes. Those names added enormous additional excitement to the release! It seems those plot additions were entirely well worth the small delay it created.

Things got unexpectedly complicated with a health issue for Wiseman; he briefly had to go to the hospital, and at this moment Chad Stahelski (the original John Wick director) stepped in.  Stahelski’s actions should never be considered as replacing Wiseman completely— this shows an essential part and collaboration involved in major movie production, showcasing that everyone on staff is important; that kind of camaraderie and collaborative nature makes for this specific outcome, creating both great support between the director and also allowing the movie to complete the additional shooting as planned.

Wiseman recovered fully, and he returned! He resumed the film with Stahelski’s support; and are totally on good terms, highlighting a great working environment, despite earlier rumors implying something entirely different. Stahelski's role remains primarily that of a producer – this ensures everyone got their desired support to finish this project; and Wiseman's focus remains primarily his editing phase!

That creative input makes those earlier criticisms entirely unfounded, suggesting some initial negativity was caused entirely by the unconfirmed details circulating before having these additional insights. The initial narrative, and suggestions entirely based upon unconfirmed statements were greatly out of place! While this story is just one part of the wider universe’s history— this showcases just how vital collaborative environments are and might be just one reason Ballerina ended as an exciting, amazing film in the end.
