Action figure toy lines and franchises burst in popularity in the 1980s. The Masters of the Universe debuted, GI Joe was rebuilt, and the Transformers arrived during this decade. Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird developed another legendary series while He-Man battled the wicked Skeletor on Eternia: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Originally a play on Frank Miller's Daredevil, it soon became into a pop cultural powerhouse with cartoons, toys, movies, and a rainbow of other products.

Though products of the 1980s, Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles both attract new generations of enthusiasts. Early in the aughts Masters of the Universe resurfaced, and they have been a constant presence ever since. Parent business of Masters of the Universe, Mattel keeps releasing toys based on the property. Likewise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still a top performer; IDW recently sold The Last Ronin quite well. Both shows have a vast universe with lots of fascinating people; now they are going to cross paths.

Every 80s kid's fantasy is the upcoming crossover between the Masters of the Universe and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Two of the most well-liked toy lines of that decade still find great appeal in the twenty-first century. Masters of the Universe/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles of Grayskull is the four-issue miniseries that will feature the two giants of toys colliding.

Dark Horse Comics, who will be publishing Turtles of Grayskull in tandem with IDW, posted more details on the title on their website. Tim Seeley will author the book; he has helped define the Masters of the Universe series for the contemporary day. Seeing Seeley on art will be Freddie E. Williams II, also not unfamiliar to the brand.

1980s Kids Could Only Dream of a Crossover Like This

Masters of the Universe is first formally meeting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, even if they had crossed over with the Thundercats and the heroes of the DC Universe. Others are joining in the pleasure and excitement this is bringing about. Apart from the comics, Mattel has published a Turtles of Grayskull series with mash-ups of the most iconic characters of each line. For youngsters of the 1980s, a meeting between He-Man and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was only a dream; but at last it is happening.
