"It's Angry": Franchise Author Shows 11 Receives Enticing Development Update.
Screenwriter Marcus Dunstan offers a development update for the much anticipated Saw XI. Originally started by Australian directors James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the enduring horror series started with Saw in 2004. Nine more films have been added to the series since the original one's successful release; the most recent, Saw X, was reviewed quite favorably. Though originally intended for release only one year following the tenth installment, it was eventually revealed that Saw XI's release date had been pushed back.
Dunstan, who co-wrote five past Saw films, has disclosed that the Saw XI screenplay is now being developed in a special interview with Screenrant. He also notes that the next one would have a "angry" approach and has something fresh to say. Please find his whole comments here below:
Delay in Saw XI
Published late 2023, Saw X saw a long-running franchise's return to form. The franchise's past few payments broke even, but overall the feedback has been unfavorable. The change came with the release of Saw X, a box office blockbuster and rapidly rising top Movie in the franchise. The success of Saw X led to a rapid turnabout time for Saw XI, originally scheduled for publication on September 27, 2024.
With a September 26, 2025 release date, it appears as though the Saw XI team is taking additional time in organizing the film, particularly following the writers strike of 2023 has pushed back the development schedule. The 81-year-old actor known as Tobin Bell, who performs the famous Jigsaw, will most likely come back to reprise his part alongside other names like Costas Mandylor and Shawnee Smith, all of which also starred in Saw X.
The Cinematic Timeline of Saw
Regarding the narrative for Saw XI, little is known, however it appears most likely that the next film carries on where Saw X left off. Generally speaking, the Saw series has a complex chronology; the eleventh movie traveled back in time to have Bell returning as Jigsaw. Though he died of cancer in Saw 3, the Horror villain has shown up in some other capacity in many of the successors.
Comprising the eleventh installment in the long-running Horror-mystery series, Saw XI revolves on the legacy of the serial murderer known as Jigsaw. It was revealed not long after Saw X's box-office run. Other than Lionsgate stating the franchise will continue and return in 2024, minimal information on the film exists.
