Venom's Symbiote Origin Explained
Like all comic book characters, Venom has a long and complex history. However, his first beginnings all appear to lead back to one character, Knull. Knull is an ancient character who was selected by the Celestials to help keep the multiverse in order. With the title, The King in Black, Knull was assigned to rule under the Celestials, but he had much greater ambitions, and created the symbiotes as an army to help him destroy all of existence.
These Symbiotes obeyed Knull through a Hive mind which allowed him to command them with a simple thought. Among his creations, one symbiote that has been referenced as either the first or the 998th creation was Venom. Venom was unique, because he could communicate with the Hive, but chose to reject Knull's orders. As a result, Venom was expelled from Knull's army, and subsequently moved through a number of hosts. However, in this period, his memory was wiped numerous times, and he struggled to find a permanent home until he landed in Eddie Brock's troubled mind. At the time of Venom joining with Brock, Brock recently fell on hard times, which ultimately helped bond Venom and Brock.
Why Venom: The Last Dance Could Feature Knull
The story so far in the Venom trilogy began with Eddie Brock, down on his luck, and the Venom Symbiote bonding with him. Initially, Venom is on a mission with the other symbiotes to find planets for their kind to devour. However, after bonding with Eddie, Venom turns on his own kind, and begins to fight other symbiotes, choosing to stay with Eddie, and protect Earth. There are also references to the Hive, which Venom still has a connection to his species through.
This lines up fairly well with the story that has played out in the movies so far, and with the latest trailer exploring new Symbiotes arriving on Earth, it could be hinting at the King in Black himself arriving to punish Venom for his disobedience. Knull is incredibly powerful, and would easily be the biggest threat that Venom or Brock have ever faced, and he would make a lot of sense as the big bad to end the story.
Knull Would Be The Best Excuse For Venom 3 Ignoring Spider-Man
Of course, for as long as the Sony Spider-Man Universe has been going, there has been an outcry about when Spider-Man himself would appear in the live-action movies. With Spidey being referenced in graffiti and small details, the question of when the Web-Slinger would finally appear has been at the forefront of the conversation. However, if Knull were to be included in Venom: The Last Dance, it would excuse his absence in order to tell a different story.
Venom's story has already had two entries that focus on the symbiote and his extended family. The first movie featured Venom and Riot, the second introduced Carnage and Shriek, and now the third entry has a chance to introduce the father of the symbiotes. Changing course at this late stage to introduce Spidey may be good fan-service, but in terms of storytelling, it makes more sense to close out Venom's story and focus on the things that impact his character. With alien symbiotes arriving in the Venom: The Last Dance trailer, there's a pretty good chance it could go in this direction.
