You really, really need to watch this film!

6. Elysium (2013): A Stark Contrast Between Worlds, With Damon Showing Just How Strong Social Commentary Might Look Like

Both The Purge: Anarchy and The Platform 2 critique specific societal failures.  The former portrays the extreme consequences within that specific social system that eliminates laws for an entire night, focusing on showcasing human behaviour under immense societal pressure; resulting in characters desperately struggling in very different, very unique conditions, highlighting certain things through the raw depiction of violence; showing the consequences and demonstrating through extreme events, what exactly happens under that dire scenario and this contrasts significantly from The Platform 2’s own storyline but equally presents equally profound socio-political commentary in a truly brutal manner, that some people watching might find far more relatable to today's realities and it could further emphasize those core political messages emphasized here!

Cube takes the confined space idea further; it's not a pit; it's an utterly impossible Cube structure. The exploration is a far more intense examination, yet that focus is what really elevates the narrative— this story cleverly and intricately challenges characters' sense of self; reality; societal hierarchies.  Its intensity comes from questioning the characters' perceptions of reality – showing how desperate humans would become and examining morality in the context of survival—it makes for incredibly creative psychological thrill. This could’ve easily been done terribly, yet it instead captures and presents these in very profound ways.

3. Snowpiercer (2013): A Train Metaphor for Class Inequality, but not nearly as bleak and harsh

Netflix Logo Image

Based on a graphic novel,  Snowpiercer's tale plays on this idea of an impossible world setting and that harsh environment serves as a platform (this is unlike The Platform 2 which used a simple structure) driving its characters,  This is important; and shows class inequalities inside an enclosed setting.   The contrasts and themes emphasized greatly are connected: The privileged in that front car stand out incredibly from those less fortunate, forced to exist under dire conditions. And that conflict fuels the core narrative. This movie however doesn’t go as hard and is a little more toned down in this manner, generating the need for deeper, intellectual discussion comparing it with The Platform 2.

Battle Royale is insanely underrated, even with a superb Rotten Tomatoes score (90%)! The premise sounds like a cheap ripoff, but its intense, disturbing approach shows students forced into a fight to the death by that powerful totalitarian government. It's compelling and memorable—like The Platform 2–because of its depiction of what happens to humans subjected to extreme measures and under dire conditions. That shared focus of presenting such brutal and thought-provoking experiences helps demonstrate those parallels across seemingly very distinct storylines!

1. Circle (2015): A Macabre Game of Survival Where Moral Boundaries Are Blurred

Logo-Prime Video.jpg.png Image

Circle uses a totally different confined environment. Instead of that insane pit; this is a dark, chamber filled with strangers.  Those forced to participate in this insane deadly game have to decide amongst themselves—and these characters must determine who will live or die.  Like The Platform 2, it focuses on the moral compromises done for survival and pushes far beyond that expected tension. The sheer intensity remains incredible.   But this one is less violent than The Platform 2; the resulting lack of that sheer brutality doesn't negatively impact its psychological depth! Both end on highly ambiguous notes; presenting open-ended results that viewers cannot simply resolve quickly—resulting in viewers creating their own analyses.
