The Firemasters: Who Exactly?
The Firemasters are a historic group of people tasked with hunting and apprehending spirits. Their history extends thousands of years. Though he is first ignorant of his supernatural heritage, Kumail Nanjiani's character Nadeem is introduced in the film as a Firemaster. Though he lacks the ghost-busting knowledge of the other characters, Nadeem gives the squad firepower.
Firemaster's History
Having existed for thousands of years, the Firemasters have a rich background in the Ghostbusters universe. Their past ties to Garraka, the primary enemy of Frozen Empire. The Firemasters grabbed and sealed Garraka in an orb 4,000 years ago. Over the ages, they have been in charge of confining several terrible spirits and demons.
The Firemasters' history included a great part played by Nadeem's grandmother. She saved several people from Garraka's Death Chill freezing in 1904. Firemasters apparently hold thousands more ghosts captive all around the globe.
Powers and Capability of Firemaster
Magical in nature, Nadeem's abilities depend on pyrokinesis—that is, the capacity to create and control flames. Using his abilities, he subdue spirits and fight Garraka. The Firemasters also use brass, which they say has magical qualities to drive ghosts away.
The Firemasters also have longer lifetime than average people. Nadeem's grandmother, who lived much beyond 100 years old, clearly shows this.
Future of the Fire Masters
Nadeem is expected to carry on the Firemasters' legacy after triumphally defeating Garraka. He will probably develop his abilities and forward the legacy to next generations. Future films might feature the cooperation developed between the Firemasters and the Ghostbusters.
