George Lucas lacked enthusiasm for The Force Awakens.
Though Lucas was clearly disappointed, Disney's first Star Wars film may have gotten an extremely good response upon release. He was quite outspoken in his disapproval; Disney CEO Bob Iger notes how he "...didn't hide his disappointment..." following a private screening. Lucas's main complaint about The Force Awakens was its lack of creativity, failing to provide fresh ideas or challenge filmmaking technological limits:
"There is nothing new," he remarked. Presenting fresh planets, new tales, new people, and new technologies was vital to him in every one of the Movies in the original trilogy. In this one he noted, "There weren't enough visual or technical leaps forward."
George Lucas said The Last Jedi was "Beautifully Made."
Though it is still the most contentious Star Wars film of all time, Lucas shockingly had something encouraging to say instead of following the hate bandwagon. But his one comment was brief and not a direct quotation; one of his representatives, Connie Wethington, said Lucas considered it to be "beautifully made." Lucas, a highly visual director, would naturally value The Last Jedi in this aspect since even its toughest detractors agree it looks amazing. This naturally does not indicate Lucas's Opinions on the plot, directing, or characters.
Lucas missed the premiere, hence his Opinions on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker are unclear.
George Lucas mulled over Rogue One extensively.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is another Disney Star Wars film bearing a good review from Lucas. Like The Last Jedi, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards had a phone contact with Lucas following his movie viewing; Lucas did not personally provide quotes. Edwards claimed that although he didn't "... want to put words into his mouth..." Lucas's response to Rogue One indicated he might "... die happy now." Though he refrained from delving further, the filmmaker stated that Lucas "really loved the movie" and that his review was more crucial than any others'.
Lucas's public impressions of Disney Star Wars are largely related to the films, however his opinions on the Obi-wan Kenobi series have also surfaced.
George Lucas Said to Love Obi-Wan Kenobi
Lucas's public impressions on Disney Star Wars mostly center on the films, however his comments about the Obi-wan Kenobi series have also surfaced. Lucas loved Obi-Wan Kenobi, according to creative executive Pablo Hidalgo of Lucasfilm, "...one of his favorite things that's come out of Star Wars." Hidalgo went on to say Lucas appreciated "... much of what he did in the prequels..." and how they were "... Celebrated in a way I'm sure surprised him." Goerge Lucas hasn't kept his dismay under wraps with much of Disney Star Wars, but it seems modern ventures might still appeal to him.
Although many supporters and detractors defend or oppose Disney Star Wars using Lucas's vision, occasionally this is based more on presumptions than facts. Fans can easily see a Disney Star Wars project mimic what Lucas did and infer that he loved it, or Disney could do something drastically different and think he must have loathed it. Lucas's views, or lack thereof, on current Star Wars films and TV shows could, however, surprise audiences. Knowing what Lucas has actually stated about Disney Star Wars is crucial as the franchise grows throughout several cinematic exploits.
