Is There a 'The Wire' Connection in 'The Instigators'?
Yep! You heard that right, Matt Damon's new Apple TV+ film, The Instigators, has a super sneaky shoutout to The Wire, one of the greatest crime dramas of all time!
What Is "The Wire Rule"?
You are gonna love this! Remember Stringer Bell in The Wire? It was such a classic, memorable line! He said "never take notes on a criminal conspiracy". The rule was pretty clever, if you think about it - because you might leave a trail of evidence, leading back to your crew.
Is It a Big Part of 'The Instigators'?
- Matt Damon's character in The Instigators? It is totally the opposite! The plot has these three criminals - they get a job: a super high-stakes heist. They’re all making this really daring move!
- We have Damon's character doing what? That's right - he’s taking notes for this heist, even though it is illegal. You’d think the main guy leading the whole thing would notice it’s super messed up, and he actually does call out Damon for doing that - like the original "The Wire"!
How Come This Is So Funny?
Well, if you ever saw The Wire and loved all the intense drama it brought. The Instigators actually did it so cleverly, but they kept it subtle so only fans who have seen the show would notice that this new Heist movie had those "The Wire" references in it.
How 'The Instigators' Reminds Us of The Wire
- Even if "The Instigators" doesn't have those same dark crime drama themes that made "The Wire" so famous. You really have to give credit for how they got those subtle hints and even quoted that line from "The Wire". It makes "The Instigators" stand out - that's a real "The Wire" legacy.
- We love this show for being a bit of a "heist comedy" - so it’s cool they got some references in from the most epic show!
- Those references are gonna have people talking - if you watch this, let me know what you think about that little touch that was clearly an homage to "The Wire" - just like those super clever Easter eggs.
Now that we know "The Instigators" is more than just your average heist film. That "The Wire Rule", as we all call it in the fandom, shows that those references to great shows, like "The Wire" will keep making those stories more interesting.
