Movies News Talk
Marvel Comics has thrown a curveball at us all. They've taken one of the most beloved superheroes, Spider-Man, and decided to throw him headfirst into the spooky side of comics with their new series, Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood. And let me tell you, this ain't your average Spider-Man story.
We all know Spidey's all about being friendly and neighborly. But in this series, the darkness of the Symbiote takes center stage, turning it into something much more than just a fancy new costume. We're talking about some serious, "this'll give you nightmares" level Horror! It's almost like the creators took cues from some classic horror movies and said, "Hey, let's see what happens when we put Spidey in the same room as Alien or The Thing!"
For those who aren't familiar, the Symbiote is a living alien suit that gives Spidey a boost, but it also tries to take over his mind. In this new series, the writers really lean into the "alien parasite" angle. Forget the Venom movie antics - this symbiote isn't joking around. It's creeping into Spidey's mind, leaving him terrified and haunted by visions.
There's a story in this new series where MJ is home alone and hears creepy noises coming from the dark corners of their apartment. At the same time, we see a totally terrified Peter, running for his life on the rooftops. It's a really chilling scene that really puts the Horror element front and center.
Now, before you start thinking about all the other symbiote-related stories, think of this as a whole new level of Cosmic Horror. Marvel usually plays it pretty safe when it comes to the symbiotes. They might make them into powerful baddies in stories like "King in Black" or "Absolute Carnage," but that's about it. They never really delve into the creepy, psychological horror that makes these things truly terrifying.
This new Spider-Man series is finally putting that into perspective. We're not talking about a cool Black Suit here; we're dealing with a horrifying creature that can invade your mind and control you! That's some next-level "what-if" territory!
Marvel and Sony are already bringing the Venom movies to the big screen, but we all know they're a little too focused on the goofy side of the symbiote. I mean, it's one thing to see Venom eating someone's head on-screen, but the real horror comes when you think about it. It's actually pretty terrifying!
Here's where the MCU can step up their game. They can totally take inspiration from this new comic series and turn Tom Holland's Spider-Man into a bona fide horror hero! Can you imagine seeing a "Spider-Man: Horror" movie, where the black suit is the main threat, and Spidey has to battle his own sanity and a terrifying alien creature? It would be a game changer for the MCU, and I'd totally be down to see it happen.
In the end, Marvel is definitely doing something new and exciting with their new Spider-Man Comics, bringing a unique spin to the familiar world of Spider-Man. While it may seem a little different from your usual superhero fare, Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood is a reminder that even the friendliest of webslingers can get caught in a scary situation.
