While it sounds pretty crazy, the whole Plot revolves around a man trapped, being controlled and put on the line for revealing information while being watched by a Dangerous, anonymous figure with a gun, holding him hostage.

There's nothing but suspense that builds, as a mysterious voice comes to him through the phone! He just can't seem to escape. It was truly innovative how Phone Booth had this unusual way of filming and had to create so much of a compelling atmosphere! What was most amazing? Well, the film is shot in real-time.

An Intense Atmosphere Created Through Real-Time Filmmaking:

What stands out? This is one of those techniques that film makers try to employ! It creates such a cool tension, by not allowing audiences to "cut" to any of those traditional edits. It really forces you to understand the plight of the "publicist!" And his terror.

It's so well done because you can just see him feeling that fear.

What is special is that it forces the director and writer to make the script as tight as can be to build the tension and characterization!
It means the character, Stu has this very important challenge.
He gets to really deliver and you can just see that! He's being held captive in this tiny little phone booth!
You see his plight and his struggles, creating an intense feeling! The whole experience just adds to it.

With these constraints, and it would be easy for directors to fall flat. However, Phone Booth stands up as one of Colin Farrell's best films.

Casting The Caller- Kiefer Sutherland

One of those major elements to a thrilling mystery and thriller movie is those villains who give audiences something that stays with them long after! For this classic, Kiefer Sutherland makes a memorable impact and in Phone Booth, he doesn't show his face, but rather plays the Caller.

If you look back to what took place back in 2002, it almost wasn't going to be this awesome actor playing the "Caller!"

Ron Eldard, originally had that part. He did all the lines for the character but ultimately, it wasn't the right fit! He wasn't capturing the same tone!
Then they were looking for that one, single perfect fit! That brought them to "Kiefer Sutherland! He re-recorded all the lines in the movie. What was amazing about this is it totally brought his menace and energy.

Sutherland's character wasn't just some threatening character but had some powerful emotional weight. It's clear that audiences connected to it as he gave the Caller an even more gripping role to play! It certainly is one of his most iconic performances!

In an attempt to get some new, exciting stories for the screen "Phone Booth" stands out in the world of film. And while this isn't a show you might hear as much about today! This is a film that has had an interesting history!

A Big Influence from Alfred Hitchcock:

"Phone Booth" had such an amazing Premise! One of those that doesn't sound super crazy until you get a glimpse inside. It is actually quite a clever concept!

The legendary director, "Alfred Hitchcock" met up with Larry Cohen (one of the screenwriters of Phone Booth) to discuss this very same plot!
Hitchcock, one of the greatest, couldn't find an angle for the character's captivity in that small, single, isolated space for a whole film.

The idea of a man stuck in a phone booth and for so long might have seemed crazy.

Hitchcock wanted to work with the phone booth!
He even checked in on Cohen with different story ideas for Phone Booth!
However, Cohen found his inspiration! After Hitchcock had passed!
