The most recent updates arrive in the shape of a My Spy: The Eternal City teaser as the action-packed sequel speeds nearer its release date. The protracted teaser catches up with JJ and Sophie as they have aged and drifted apart. But a choir trip to Italy sets the two in conflict since JJ's wish to chaperon Sophie's trip drags them both into an international terrorism plot. Apart from all the action, the teaser guarantees a load of hilarity from comedy icons including Anna Faris, Ken Jeong, and Kristen Schaal.
The much awaited follow-up to 2020's My Spy is now under development, and My Spy: The Eternal City already boasts a lot of fascinating facts. Ex-wrestler Dave Bautista played JJ, a CIA agent caught spying by a small child named Sophie (Chloe Coleman), who is coerced into training the precocious child how to be a secret agent in the first movie. The core of the humor and heart of the movie, the struggle of wits between the two different characters had huge sequel potential from the beginning.
Until April 2024 when they revealed that My Spy: The Eternal City will release on July 18, 2024, Prime Video was mainly silent about the sequel. Available to members on release day, the film will stream only on Amazon Prime Video. The film will most likely stay a streaming exclusive; there are no stated ideas for a theatrical release.
With a measly 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, the family-friendly action film received very harsh criticism. Financially, the film did not fare much better and suffered under the COVID-19 epidemic of 2020, whereby most movie theaters worldwide closed owing to social distance. Early 2020 saw Amazon purchase the rights to the movie, and My Spy was put on streaming without ever seeing a complete run in theaters. A sequel that aims to franchise the often overlooked action-comedy is now under development.
My Spy depends mostly on the chemistry between its lead characters, thus it is already succeeding since it brings back the original stars. Though some years have gone between films, Dave Bautista will be on hand as the tough CIA agent JJ and Chloe Coleman will be back as his precocious and driven sidekick, Sophie. Along with a slew of fresh hires including Anna Faris and Craig Robinson, returning supporting actors such Kristen Schaal as Bobbi and Ken Jeong as David Kim have also been revealed.
My Spy: The Eternal City boasts a cast comprising:
Actor | My Spy: The Eternal City Role
Dave Bautista: JJ
Sophie | Chloe Coleman
Bobbi, Krist Schaal
Kevin Jeong | David Kim
Anna Faris | Identity Unknown
Craig Robinson | Identity Unknown
Flula Borg | Unidentified
Plot elements of the much anticipated sequel have long been known, and My Spy: The Eternal City will transport the pair on a worldwide journey. JJ and his pint-sized friend find themselves enmeshed in a worldwide terrorist conspiracy when convinced to travel with Sophie to Italy. My Spy: The Eternal City looks ready to do what every sequel should and improve the best features of the original with the stakes raised and the place changed. Clearly, additional creases will show up in the narrative, but the journey is already looking to be funny and thrilling.
Among the busiest stars in Hollywood is Dave Bautista. His most recent film is especially interesting since its link to his earlier work is really neat.
A full teaser for My Spy: The Eternal City has leaked ahead of the July 2024 release date, with equal amount of action and comedy. Years later after My Spy, catching up with Sophie and JJ, the hardened CIA agent discovers his strong-willed sidekick is chaffing against his new office post. But JJ's work as a chaperon becomes even more crucial when a terrorist group threatens David Kim and his son on the way Sophie's school choir travels to Italy.
Complementing the 2020 movie, Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman star in an action-comedy called My Spy: The Eternal City. J.J. a CIA agent is driven to follow Sophie on a school vacation to Italy that goes south due to terrorist attack.
Track My Spy on Amazon Prime Video.
