Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series is a huge hit, and for good reason. It's a complex world with cool magic, interesting Characters, and epic stories. But, even epic series need to evolve, which means that there are big changes.
Mistborn Era 3: A New Chapter
After two successful eras, Sanderson is getting ready to start working on Era 3 (also known as the Ghostbloods Trilogy) sometime in 2025. This next era already has a major advantage over Era 2. Let's take a look.
Era 2: The Challenges
Era 2 (also known as the Wax and Wayne Series) was a massive undertaking! Sanderson took the original Mistborn setting (a medieval-like world with a dystopian empire and specific class structures) and moved the story 200 years into the future. It featured new tech and changes!
- New Wild West setting
- New characters
- Updated magic system
- Society evolved, meaning that everything that was known changed
While this took risks, it ultimately created some really innovative storytelling, establishing trust amongst fans that Sanderson could manage big, complex stories and that it only created exciting expectations that this world would have the capability to give much more!
Era 3: The Advantage
Era 3 builds upon what already existed. No more crazy re-imagining needed, the foundation is built for a lot more excitement!
Because Era 2 successfully managed to change and re-imagine this new world it established confidence among Fans that Sanderson can take on even more creative endeavors. It was also the perfect chance to give fans something to appreciate as this new technology becomes part of the storyline.
New Stories, New Tech
Era 2 ( The Wax and Wayne Series) also demonstrated something else, which fans can be really happy about. The capability of Sanderson to deliver epic new stories in an established world! Even better that this was completely unique to Era 1, and there were exciting moments of seeing what happened with Scadrial after these changes took place! It seems this world isn't even close to the limits of what's possible.
- Gun battles and then launching rockets! What can a future have?!
- Changes in women’s roles, going from being mostly disempowered, to super powerful feminist heroes.
- An ever-changing magical system, this world gives fans something they want, to expand it further into a completely more innovative space!
The next installment looks to continue the success! This time it takes a journey into Scadrial's future—an Early Computer Age.
Readers are definitely hoping to see just what can come from Sanderson as these technological and magical changes will have big implications for the characters. It was never more true than this latest series, which is called the Ghostbloods Trilogy. They take the adventures from this story even further, not just across Scadrial, but through a multitude of worlds that are found throughout the Cosmere.
The Cosmere and its Vast Potential
What makes Mistborn so popular amongst fans? It shows just how connected it all is. There are amazing characters. Cool tech and a vast universe. These were originally brought to life by Kelsier in the first series!
With Sanderson showing that the universe can expand without any issues. Fans can only anticipate the creative adventures coming down the line.
