Young Avengers Assemble! Wiccan Leads the Charge in Awesome New Concept Art!
Agatha: Coven of Chaos Finally Brings Wiccan to the MCU Young Avengers!
Billy Maximoff, aka Wiccan, is officially joining the MCU's Young Avengers! After a brief (and rather dramatic) death in WandaVision and that totally awesome appearance in Agatha: Coven of Chaos (episode 6, "Familiar By Thy Side"), he’s ready for action. This is a seriously huge moment! It completely changed the narrative possibilities for several MCU Phase 5 releases.
Julian Hilliard originally portrayed young Billy in WandaVision, but his resurrection introduced Joe Locke ("Teen" in Agatha: Coven of Chaos; later confirmed as Wiccan), officially making him part of this now incredibly iconic Marvel comics lineup. Wiccan’s powerful Chaos Magic and reality-warping abilities make him the perfect Young Avenger!
AGT Design created some absolutely amazing concept art portraying the upcoming Young Avengers roster. That concept poster features a group featuring Wiccan, Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Cassie Lang, America Chavez, Kid Loki, and Ironheart (Riri Williams). All that awesomeness in one place?! Wow! This art seriously sets imaginations racing; creating all that speculation needed to boost those numbers when this next group officially comes to our screens.
Wiccan's Marvel Comics History and His Upcoming MCU Journey
After getting resurrected as Wiccan (Billy Kaplan) in the comics, this very specific incarnation eventually becomes one of the most powerful Young Avengers. We’re definitely seeing similar storylines develop in the MCU, creating anticipation regarding upcoming Phase 6 movies. Joe Locke’s Wiccan in Agatha: Coven of Chaos is incredible; getting to fully experience and display this amazing hero; and is poised for incredible future development in future titles, especially with Agatha Harkness mentoring him.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos already set the stage and provides crucial hooks that make everything tie in wonderfully together, including a core narrative around finding his brother Tommy (who is expected to also eventually reappear as the speedster, Speed – which would then solidify a significant plot point related to the maximoffs and these crucial two additions which will affect how this story unfolds. It is likely to be pivotal). This makes for another crucial plot that is totally related to the broader Young Avengers narrative. Both Wiccan and Speed's presence means a totally huge change to this lineup; hinting towards several future releases which would involve those two.
Analyzing the Potential Young Avengers Roster: Who's In and Who's Out
The Marvels (2023) teased Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop joining the team and already includes hints and cameos of Cassie Lang, highlighting her importance which suggests a role much larger in those subsequent movies. Ironheart’s (2025) is likely to also introduce Riri Williams, which makes those previous cameos far more obvious; they were intentional hooks to introduce some highly needed and desired members for this upcoming line up. That potential inclusion of Kid Loki and America Chavez from Phase 4 would also be exciting, adding another incredibly memorable and recognizable roster. However, it leaves out many famous Young Avengers (Patriot, Iron Lad, Hulkling, Prodigy….). The given lineup already looks powerful!
Conclusion: The Young Avengers Are Coming, and it's Going to be Epic!
Wiccan's introduction totally restructures this new MCU Young Avengers team, solidifying those needed, recognizable aspects needed to fully impact that specific audience that already knows who Wiccan and other significant characters already are; emphasizing why certain characters had to appear. This new artwork just shows how incredibly big those characters might become, further fueling expectations, for an amazing addition that only this team can possibly bring! It hints at intense storylines that will surely come next!
