Who Will Meet Their Maker in Phase 6 of the MCU's Grim Future?
There have been several deaths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The series has never shied away from murdering off cherished characters, as seen by the painful sacrifice made by Black Widow and the startling demise of Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame. With Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars hanging large as we approach Phase 6, the MCU is set up for a wave of character deaths that have the potential to permanently alter the universe. Ten important MCU characters that are most likely to die in the upcoming Marvel story will be examined in this article.
Hawkeye: The End of a Marksman?
Somehow, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye has survived innumerable conflicts and threats to obliterate the world. Given Kate Bishop's status as a stand-in hero and Renner's recent injury, it seems likely that Hawkeye will eventually meet his demise. It's feasible that Hawkeye will receive a post-mortem prequel movie from the MCU, a la Black Widow.
The Hulk: A Mighty Offering?
In the MCU, The Hulk has been a lost opportunity because he has never received the solo films he so richly deserves. The introduction of a new menace such as Doctor Doom could be effectively accomplished by eliminating such a formidable individual. The death of the Hulk might open the door for a new wave of heroes, with Skaar and She-Hulk lurking in the wings.
Bucky: There are nine lives left.
The Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes, has seen far too many close misses to count. Sebastian Stan has even hinted that his character's days are numbered, implying a potential death in Thunderbolts or the future Avengers films. Bucky's demise would be a suitable climax to his storyline following a protracted journey of conquering trauma and facing his history.
Thor: The Final Battle of the God of Thunder
Already, Thor has lost his hammer, eye, mother, father, sibling, and homeland. Is there nothing left for him to lose but death? Thor's death might make a strong statement about the scope of the threat, especially with a new adversary like Doctor Doom on the horizon. Thor's erstwhile nemesis Love's daughter is adopted by him, which also paves the way for a potential valiant sacrifice to save her.
Wong: An Essential Offering
Even though Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, has grown to be a popular favorite, his eventual lack of significance could make him an easy target for death. By eliminating Wong, Doctor Strange would be able to regain the title of Sorcerer Supreme, further establishing him as the MCU's new chief tactician.
Rocket Raccoon: A Termination of a Period
With Rocket and Groot the only ones remaining, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 seemed like a real conclusion for the group. A fitting way to end an era, Rocket's death would be terrible to fans, especially in light of the Guardians' split. It might also be a metaphorical farewell to James Gunn's impact on the MCU as he departs for Washington, DC.
Kang: The Fall of the Council
Kang was supposed to be the next major enemy in the MCU, but Doctor Doom has eclipsed him. Doom himself might be responsible for the Council of Kangs' demise. Doom's strength and place as the new main antagonist would be established by Kang's death, whether it was overtly revealed or not.
Ant-Man: A Deadly Box Office Disaster
The box office failure of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania raised concerns about the character's future. The death of Scott Lang might be a chance to reinvent the character and bring in new possibilities, with Cassie Lang taking on the role of a size-changing hero.
War Machine: A Farewell or a Skrull Deception?
It has been discovered that the long-running MCU hero War Machine is a Skrull imposter. This might result in a retcon that brings back the real Rhodey or in the Skrull's death. War Machine might yet be written out of the MCU because Don Cheadle is getting older in the role.
Nick Fury: The Mentor's Demise
The main character of the MCU, Nick Fury, has escaped numerous threats. Particularly after decades of giving back to the universe, his death might be terrible. Given that Samuel L. Jackson is getting close to 75 years old, it seems unlikely that the MCU would allow Fury to escape another terrible incident. His death would serve as a sad reminder of those who had given their lives to keep the globe safe.
The MCU's Future: A New Era
A new age of heroes and villains would begin with the deaths of these beloved figures, marking a turning point in the MCU. These characters' deaths would open the door for new stories and characters to appear in the franchise, which is renowned for its adaptability and evolution. The MCU may not know what lies ahead, but one thing is certain: after Phase 6, the universe will never be the same.
