Look Back Movie
Released in Japan and some other countries over the summer, the film adaptation of Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto's short story Look Back has already become rather popular. Both admirers and detractors of Look Back have praised its emotional story and great visuals. Clearly a financial success as well, given its hegemony at the Japanese box office and over a billion yen earnings.
Farewell, Eri Anime Adaptation
Every media has seen great success from Look Back, and it might not be the only short story Tatsuki Fujimoto has produced to meet that level of success. Although the movie mostly was a one-to---one copy of the original manga, several original scenes were included. One scene in particular implies that another of Tatsuki Fujimoto's short stories might be animated under plans. Though given the caliber of the story in issue, it would be fantastic to see regardless of whether it is nothing more than a reference.
Easter Egg from Looking Back
In Look Back, Fujino and Kyomoto spent their manga contest earnings on a day out in the city, including movie seeing. While the film adaptation had them viewing the film Yuta Ito made in Goodbye, Eri, another manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the manga only depicted their reactions to the movie. Ultimately, it might just be an Easter egg, but it still implies that there is demand in a Goodbye, Eri anime.
Why a Goodbye, Eri Anime Would Be Perfect?
Look Back hints that a Goodbye, Eri anime adaptation might be in the works and offers a few interesting reasons to consider. Though Tatsuki Fujimoto's works always incorporate the concepts of film in some form, thanks to their metafictional narrative, Goodbye, Eri takes that further than any other story of his. This even affects the uncertain character of the ending. Therefore, a film adaptation of Goodbye, Eri could highlight even more its themes of film production using creative animation and direction, so possibly raising the story to even more great heights.
Of course, the most exciting reason a Goodbye, Eri anime would be interesting is based on its narrative. Goodbye, Eri is a dramatic and emotional narrative on adjusting to loss and the legacy a person leaves behind when they die. Like Look Back, it features some of Tatsuki Fujimoto's career's most emotionally powerful compositions. Goodbye, Eri would benefit just as much from an anime, thus it would be fantastic if Look Back really were a sign of that being on the horizon. Chainsaw Man and Look Back had such great animation.
