Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: Sequel, Reboot, or Something New?

The Planet of the Apes franchise has been around for a long time! It all started back in 1968. There have been many sequels and remakes. The latest movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, came out in 2024, is making a big splash in the world of film!

A New Generation of Apes:

This new installment, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes jumps ahead in time to a world that takes place 300 years after War for the Planet of the Apes. While many fans are happy with these latest movies. What many want is an ending that would finally take it all the way and finally connect this timeline to the very first Planet of the Apes movies that came out in the 1970s.

Comparing Timelines:

The Planet of the Apes movies released between 1968 and 1973 take place in 3978. But Kingdom takes place around 2328! That is still over a 1,650 year difference.

So even though Kingdom makes things seem as if we're heading toward a new direction, fans should expect there might not be any crossover to the earlier films.

Kingdom's Unique World:

Even though these timelines differ! Kingdom shares the similar concept of a planet controlled by apes! This 2024 installment does not completely match the initial films that came out decades ago!

  • The environment shows how much it differs! A lot more lush! Where as before we're mostly seeing more arid, deserted lands.
  • There are apes but no "Ape City!"

What's so amazing is that these changes help highlight how much things have developed. Kingdom does set the scene to mirror some of the settings and gives those glimpses of how an Ape City could develop.

What Fans Want From Future Sequels:

This movie ended by hinting that a third movie, will feature Noa! That character is central to Kingdom, mirroring how Caesar drove the earlier movies. The upcoming sequels may be exploring the development of the character and a battle with the humans. This will keep fans interested.

Wes Ball confirmed another trilogy is on the way!

There is no reason to try to push things toward those previous storylines!

Many people might assume the story needs to show George Taylor or someone similar to get this world's history even more grounded!

The Power of The Reboot Series:

This latest movie will add to its own exciting history, but there is still no guarantee that any more remakes will continue forward in time to connect these universes! If anything it could introduce its version of these astronauts later.

What is far more likely and compelling, is to focus on a brand-new storyline! This latest movie gave an exciting new universe and compelling, intense moments that have created a very memorable show that makes "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" such an interesting Sequel and addition to this large movie franchise!

Will the storyline explore how humanity gets taken over by apes? Is that even something we will get to see? Only time will tell. The whole Planet of the Apes world is one full of so much, making this the kind of franchise that leaves audiences wanting more! That doesn't end here as these storylines and future Sequels have huge opportunities and potential! A sequel might even give us more unique insight, taking fans down the next great storyline and might not end up hitting on what the audience may be specifically looking forward to. Only time will tell if the universe's creators intend to add a twist that some have been hoping for!
